To be honest I don't think there will be much difference between the Capri and the Volvo running-cost wise. True point, I get 20-23mpg out a 1.6 Pinto with an auto, and marginally more out of a 2.3 Volvo motor with a manual. Plus scrapyard Volvo parts are cheaper than Ford tuning. But the Volvo will prove harder to modify, so it comes down to whether you're handy with the spanners or not. And how finely tuned is your sense of irony? A modified Volvo is a thing of beauty, but that beauty can sometimes be hard to spot by the general public... The Volvo will mark you out as a true purveyor of retroness, and you'll get a load more for your money than a Capri. I'd still recommend the Capri though...

LOL. The running costs of the volvo is the thing that majorly puts me off. I'm really tempted by a MK3 Capri. Although the volvo is appealing more and more. I'm so indecisive. Mk2... Mk2.... Mk2.... ;D Edit: Can't seem to post a pic... Probably because it's so damn attractive...

Sure you can insure a Capri bud? I'm 18 and looked at getting a Capri with Tescos (by far the cheapest IMO) but they wouldnt even insure me on a 1600 Laser as a named driver. Would be cool however! 240's kick huge quantities of fat chicks ass, i looked at getting one again, viewed two, but running costs put me off although would be hugely practical and slammable. Golf- put your hand up in the air where i can see them and step away from the bandwagon!! Acclaim, sheer groovy but what are parts like? That one in Reader Rides looks great Stellar, Ford running gear, Cortina lowering springs, stick a big engine from a granny or the sort in it, cheap to insure £650 as named from Tescos however parts that arnt Ford or Mitsu are quite rare. But, huggeee potential and never done before (If you did you can help me expand the Artois community, spread the word!!! ) 240 or Stellar for the win ;D

Well theres a young lad(18 iirc) on here somewhere that drives a 2 litre capri as a named driver. I've never tried Tesco's i'll give em a ring. The Volvo is the same price to insure tpf&t as my saxo is to insure fully comp both in my name. I really do fancy a capri though. I've kinda discounted the Golf already. I dunno i'm all confused

I guess the non-postability of the Capri pic means I'll have to post this instead. Bilsteins, LPG, slightly 1996 16in Blades, leather and it'll be for sale soon for under a grand... Edit: There should be a pic of 1989 Volvo saloon above, but Tinypic don't seem to want to host any pictures today So maybe this'll have to suffice until I figure out how to work it proper... i2.tinypic.com/rb9thg.jpgJust previewed, and apparently that won't work either... Jeez.

Is there a choice? Bits are plentiful and cheap - even Volvo still sell stuff. I needed a catch for the rear seat folding mechanism, it took lesss that a week and cost just £20, all the way from Sweden! If you can find a GLT, go for that. The 2ltr (as mine is) is not the fastest car in the world, but it does keep up with traffic OK, even on a motorway. Slamming is a quick job with a grinder, plus - no one expects a Volvo!

Thats the look I'm going for ^^^^. Apart from with the dished 5 spoke wheels you get on i think its the GLT model. I love the lack of side rubbing strips and the black under spoiler.
@ irol looks like a really nice volv but I'd be after an estate.

[quote @ irol looks like a really nice volv but I'd be after an estate.[/quote] Good man, you're definetly ready for Volvo ownership. When you're ready I've got a spare set of Virgos I'll do cheap for you... (they're the five spoke GLT alloys you referred to)
