Essen is supposed to be the biggest classic car show in Europe, and as it is only 20 miles up the road from my place, it seemed rude not to go. After spending a day there and not seeing nearly all of it, I am happy to agree that it was indeed rather large.
There were millions and millions of pounds worth of amazing exotica - never seen so many priceless cars in one place.
I am an idiot and forgot to take my proper camera, so only took 50 or so shots on my phone before that died, so apologies for the poor quality pics. Will try harder next year!
anyway, enough waffle. Pics...
This was HUGE!
My favourite car by far. I would love to completely restore this, but leave the body exactly as it is. Of course it's worth more than my house, so will remain but a dream...
Bet you can't guess what this is!
A minor restoration project. Lead loading work looked interesting
Yup, modern, but I wouldn't say no. I know this car has received criticism for it's looks, but in the flesh, it is absolutely gorgeous!
Seen the C111 so many times in books/magazines, but never before for real. Looked great from the front...
...but they appear to have forgotten to finish the back of it!
C112 looked more complete, but still very much a concept car.
SLR prototype
Early Unimog. Later saw a really early one from 1952, but phone had died by then...
Sorry, more photos of an SL. I love 'em!
Jackie Stewart's actual BRM with H16 engine. The only one in existence. How do you insure something like this?!
I saw this custom Buick at a show in Belgium about 15 years ago. It looked exactly the same now as it did then. Very high quality car. (Sorry for curse word photo)
One for Seth
4x4 Rolls
A Lloyd Alexander. Tiny car. Never seen one before, but most Germans walking past it seemed to know exactly what is was...
And on to the Skodas.. Rally cars a plenty
And the modern equivalent. Interesting that this was a four door...
Massive arches, tiny wheels, looked hard as nails.
And a very stylised Skoda that I've never come across before. Love the headlight covers.
Brown. Cool wheels. Low. Finished.
This NSU Prinz...
...had such cool wheels
Concept?
It was a late Renault 4, but with Renault 3-esk panelled rear window. Looked factory too. Confused
And of course no European show is complete without a token Ami 6!
