This morning my dad got into work to find a very distinctive Volvo Amazon had been pinched from outside his workshop in Sandford, near Oxford. The car is a LHD 2 door, which has been rolled badly leading to significant body damage. As well as the car, rusty spare panels were also taken. The theft would have had to occur in a very short time frame between 7.30am and 8am, as the electronically operated gates are locked at 5.30pm and don't open until 7.30am and the first other mechanic arrived on site at about 8am. Any info is greatly appreciated. Please note since these pics were taken both bumpers were removed. Cheers.

Make sure you let all the scrap metal merchants round there know - if the car was taken as well as other steel, it is possible it was just taken to weigh in.

that thought crossed our minds - the odd thing is though, outside the gate which the neds who nicked it cut open, there are 2 or 3 cars that have been left dumped which would have been easy to lift up and away...these guys knew what they were looking for. I guess the only way to tell thats not the case is seeing if anything else goes missing in the next few days.

This one's a bit baffling. Weighing in would be my strongest motive, as Amazons ain't much cop at banger racing or so I'm told.
The fact that they took rusty spares (were the panels restorable?) points to the former rather than the latter.
It's an early nose B18 car as well. A shame. Hope it turns up.

Apparently the front end kinks badly where the chassis rails hoop over the crossmember. Back end of saloons has no structure to it aside from the chassis rails, but the estates can survive a much bigger impact at the rear due to the hidden structure inside the rear quarters etc. I'll also post this up on the VOC forum, in case anyone is offered the car or parts from it.
