For bits try these guys: www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/I doubt Melody parts will show up on their website, so ringing them is the only way. They are VERY helpful & IME, pretty cheap.

Ah cheers for that!
Someone on here whos a bike tester, tells me that it shouldnt have failed due to the lock, its merely the MOT tester being a bit too thorough, so he says.
I'm gunna make my own lock because I'm sure someone would happily take 3l of petrol if the access was easy and the cap didnt lock!

Right, battery arrived, filled it with acid, let it settle, then put the acid plugs back in (werent supposed to, but being male i didnt read the instructions in any proper detail)
One of the plugs then blew out, spraying the surrounding area in acid and blew the plug 4 metres from its original location.
And the flippin' thing wont charge.
Question - have i fecked the thing up?
The electrolite has gone yellow, i dunno if thats good or bad (plus its changed levels - gone up)
>_<

Seems it was a deceiving battery charger, battery is now charged and works fine. The brand new brake lever that i fitted was badly cast, and wouldnt go on properly, so dad filed it and it was fine - until the bit in which the end of the cable sits, broke. Remember this is a brand new lever. Chinese FTL. So the old one went back on for proper brake adjustment, and the front brake now works. So what i need now, is another brake lever, a new front tyre still, some fork gaiters (still cant find any of these) and i need to fashion a seat lock. After all that, it will be done Anyway, i t-cutted it today, so heres some pretty shots:

Hello again, did a fair bit of work today. Fitted a topbox - its ugly as hell but it saves me having to carry a helmet around. I also fashioned a seat lock. This took me all day Main reason being that it was stupidly strong metal, the drills where blunt and the drill was going round the wrong way >_<. Got there in the end though, i havent got any pictures as of yet because i've just painted it and ill get you some pictures when i fit it tomorrow. travellers cant steal my fuel now .

Righty. New tyre fitted: Thankfully dad had tyre levers so he could do the job without needing to pay some spotty chav to do it. New tax disc holder: And finally have a new plate, need some new bolts for it though. I just need to fit a new cable, new brake lever and fit the seat cover that came with it, and then the moped itself will be done ;D

Small update time. I remade the 'seat lock' because the first one i made was flawed and rubbish anyway. This one is much more sturdy, does the job better and looks a lot better as well. New lock fitted too. All i have to do now is change the brake cable/lever and recover the seat, and then its done

Wicked little bike! We used to ride these about all the time as kids. I fondly remember we had one which I had jumped off a 15ft sand dune and impressivly landed squarely on both wheels. Not so impressive was the way it blew a tyre, tore off the exhaust, all the plastics exploded, and it bent in half so the handlebars touched the seat, ejecting me and ending in serious pain. We got my dad to bend it back out again and weld a bloody great big bit of bar in the middle of it for a bit of extra support. Good times. We later rode it out to Helston, 2 up, me on the luggage rack and my mate Matt riding, feet on feet. We were riding for about an hour doing 20mph with the torn off exhast barking like Bast*rd when I turned around and noticed the 10 mile que of traffic behind us. Woops! Good times though. The Honda Melody will always have a place in my heart.

Haha! Brilliant ;D I cant wait to have some freedom and not have to stand at a freezing cold bus stop waiting for a miserable middle aged bus driver who never got the job he really wanted Granted, ill get cold on the ped anyway but i'd rather have the ability to go when i want instead of having to wait :L. Cheers for the reply though! its always appreciated

Well, guys, i've been on image search. Was looking at how I could improve this thing in the future... First I found this, a honda dio 125 engine fitted. Then, I put 'honda dio engine' into google images, to see what one looked like. And up popped this, my jaw actually dropped: I think this thing could look properly cool in future

The white one is nice, 'specially the stuff toy sucked into the inlet Word for the wise, lowered bikes look nice but have no hope in hell of holding a line about 20mph, their either drag bikes or all show no go. if you feel like have a unassuming 50 with a big engine have a look at gilera runner 180's....

What do you mean by "holding a line about 20mph"?
|
|
|
|
|

it'll feel easy to balance at low speeds, then when your above about 20mph and you lean it into the corner, it'll require loads of body movement and general work to make it go where you want it to. Are you planning on lowering it? note all the fast bikes have there centre of gravity high and near the riders own CoG, mopeds are flawed in that respect but they are only town bikes.
if your interested in doing it, do it but just don't expect it to really improve it. the dio is also known as a honda lead, will that engine drop into your frame? that would be immense.

Yeah its not a case of making it feel amazing to ride, its just a case of once I go 125 it'll mean that I can keep up with dual carriageway traffic and be able to ride the whole way to college instead of having to ride into town, park up, and walk to the station to catch a train. I will be lowering it yes, although around an inch less than that white one so that I can keep the original brake light Its more for looks than anything, much like a lot of stuff on here ;D I Must say, you cant lean this moped much anyway, its not too far off the ground as it is. And yes, the engine apparently drops straight in with just a little modification to the shock mount. Should be nice

"hot curse word" - HAHAHA.
No i havent had it on the road yet, I'm sure you can see in my pretty shots that we have a fair bit of land, and theres a track right up the middle so i whizz up that.
I have a 'field trip' (for wish of a less american word) in the easter hols - to iceland, and due to the fact my passport isnt digital it means that i have to send my passport off to get my provisional, so I'm waiting untill i have been on that trip, then i can send off.
I had the photo taken for the provisional today, and a new bank account opened etc, so things are moving closer to being on the road ;D.
Cheers for the comment!
