Right ive been trying to think of somthing to keep me busy...
ive spent the last week or so re-commisioning my Old rc airboat...
Its powered by thundertigers first 15 engine and yesterday i got it running again... (including the chunk out of my thumb thanks to the prop)
But as ill now be using that, and other than fuel and occasional batterys it needs nout.
so i wanna build models again.... but whats a good make? when i used to do it i liked revell, but are there any betteR?
and i love hotrod/old yanks
anyone got any recommendations? ;D

For hot rods / Yanks, you'll be looking at Revell / Monogram or AMT. Some are good, some less so - depends on the individual kit. Here's a good forum to start you offIs there anything in particular car that you fancy building?

Not realy sure what i want to build yet? possibly a Model t rod, or the blue model A that revell did, it had 5 spoke american racing rims and a surfboard iirc? i built it when i was younger but not very well so would like to do that again.... or possibly rebuild the one i did... Or somthing wierd... like rommels rod or a bit of a retro twist using somthing like the sunbeam alpine and some cragers or somthing? haha

Hi Paul, I don't suppose you fancy building a model kit for me do you?? I've got a 1/24 Aoshima kit of an L300 Delica that I'd love to have built, but I'd rather it end up looking like a Delica than an experiment in fusing plastic, glue and fingertips....gone badly wrong! I know it sounds cheeky, but I imported the kits especially (one to build and one to keep unbuilt in the box - how sad is that!) So far I have managed to successfully keep them both unbuilt although I did try the shell of one on my modified Kyosho Mini-Z chassis just to see how it would look: I'll understand if you don't fancy tackling it, but if I could one day have a built model...it would be awesome! (Sorry for the thread hijack RW! )

Type in the scale and 'model car' in ebay and loads come up. Swap stuff from numerous kits for a more individual finished product. On ebay they sell add on kits too with things like wheels seats steering wheels etc.

Or somthing wierd... like rommels rod or a bit of a retro twist using somthing like the sunbeam alpine and some cragers or somthing? haha Rommel's Rod has been re-released recently, so shouldn't be too difficult to get one. Probably need to be ordered from the states though. A 1:24 / 1:25 Alpine isn't cheap. However if you like Brit sports cars, then there's Gunze Sangyo's Triumph TR2 / 3 / 3A (avoid the Academy TR3 though....) and AH Sprite, and the Aoshima / Revell / Airfix* MGB roadster, all in 1:24. No engines, but otherwise nice kits & should be available for sensible money. The MG is especially detailed underneath, and is ripe for an engine transplant! Tamiya have done some VERY nice '60s cars too, and all are full detail - Mini Cooper, Fiat 500, 2CV, Jag Mk2, Honda S800, VW Beetle (late sloping headlight) and Karmann Ghia. Revell have also just released very detailed VW Samba & Trabant kits, but don't confuse them with earlier releases, which were much cruder. The new ones are completely new tooling. *same kit in different boxes. Aoshima ones might have some extra goodies but not sure. I have the Airfix boxed version. Not to be confused with the 1:32 Airfix MGB though! Here's the AMT, Revell & Monogram car kits that are on ebay at the moment clickyAnd another forum for you: forum.spc.org.uk/phpBB3/Incidentally, I'm about to have a clear out of some of my kits (just moved house & have less storage) so if you're interested, I can send you the excel file with all the info on them. I had similar thoughts a couple of months ago, and was shocked when I went to try and buy some kits. The last time that I built a plastic model kit they were about $20 each, and you used to be able to get them cheap at Big W. Now they're only in hobby shops, and the hobby shop prices have doubled! I nearly got scared away from kits entirely because it's now cheaper to buy a very nice fully finished 1/18 die-cast model than it is to buy a 1/24 kit. even before you include the paint! I bought myself a "Nostalgic Heroes" 1/24 1969 Subaru R-2 Deluxe kit, which doesn't have engine detail but it's unique and was cheap.
If you're looking for old and unique J-tin kits in 1/24, then the Doyusha Nostalgic Heroes series is pretty good. The shells look good and are nicely detailed, but there's no engine or underbody details. In fact they have a clockwork motor!

If you are into rc boats and plastic models, you can get some great revell plastic boat kits that are perfect for rc coversions.
I made a Schellboat (sp?!) german fast torpedo boat and used servo motors and boards for power and the props that came with the kit were perfect.
I will see if I can find some pics of it.

Revell also do a 1:72 scale Sunseeker Predator 108, which I'm sure would make a great rc speedboat! Usually £20 / £25 on eBay

This is my kind of plastic kit modelling.... and this Ive built a BMW 635CSi by revell i think, good kit but havent quite finished it yet. Got a 750iS to do aswell. Tamiya and AFV club (obsolete) are good kits to build.
