as some might know I sold my old viva coupe turbo to slammed66 on here..
I regretted getting rid of the coupe but had to fund my plymouth barracuda which is a car ive always wanted.. so there was a point to it..
after various crappy dailys I brought a nice little hillman imp coupe..
I did like it but tbh I still wanted another viva..
so after much searching I bagged a very untidy but mot'd hc viva coupe..
it was miles away in norwich so from only rubbish pics of the car to go on and no real turning back after the train fairs were booked.. I just took the risk..
after a freind backed out of "holding my hand" on the long journey I asked steve "sleeperviva" to come along and he agree'd....
a long and nasty train journey meaning I left my house at 5:30 on the saterday we aventially arrived at norwich train station and rang the selled to pick us up.. by around 1pm we drove into a driveway containing the new conquest.. or "offending artical" as I like to call it..
is was and is a sh!tter!!
but id had been on public transport for too long to really argue..
so logbook dutys and cash changed hands.
and I was a proud owner of a shabby old estate car not knowing if we would make the 270mile trip back!!
after realising that it didnt have a cigar lighter webodged carefully rigged up a temporary socket thus
the only easy accessible live wire belonged to the back of the already loose wiper switch..
a bit of wire taped on and shoved in the spade connector with the casing for the socket wedged almost firmly under a loose screw for earth we tapped the postcode in and off we went..
having only briefly started it and no test drive before parting with the cash we backed off the drive on 3 cylinders..
and trundled to the end of the road..
the doom was starting I'm my head as we tried to laugh off the idea that it maybe a long walk home!!
it did however get back under its own steam........ somehow.. we even managed to got almost 70mph at one point but as the poor little 1159cc had sounded like it was under more distress than a vicar caught in a porn dungeon we decided we best not go "fullbore" again till we getvrather more close to home..
here it is at the more happy 50mph on the way home:
ok so a few small pics wont do for any decent retro rider worth his (or her) salt..
her it is in all its rusty/fillered up glory..
ok now with a better look around it and sevral more hundred miles on the old girl.. it not too bad....
bad:
-the engine would struggle to pull the skin from a cup of 1/2 day old hot chocolate so rice pudding is a definate no no!!
-the gearbox has obviously had all its bearings replaced with old coke cans and grit!!
-someone (and no the owner didnt admit to it : has repaired the sill ends with flat bits of plate that more likely resemble a biscuit tin nailed to the side than the sill that should be there...
-dash light no existent!
-knocking lower ball joint on the apparently "replaced for a good one" bottom arm..
-and verious other nasty but minor nittle nigles..
good:
-the engine actually seams fine now that the timing isnt as retarded as a trainee roofer..
-its actually solid in all the right areas.. so n o reall biggy to sort..
axle is sweet as is the brakes..
thats all for a few moments.. more updates on there way shortly..
and a BIG THANKYOU to sleeperviva steve for putting up with me on the hideous trip up there to collect..
