bit by bit ive been chipping away in my lunchbreaks and the engine is slowley getting together I removed the heavy cast iron (and not needed) engine mount bracket. but as it left a big hole in the cover I chopped a bit of aluminium plate and pop riveted it in place keeping the stones at bay.. not pretty but functional next up I needed to mount the alternator forward to line up with the most forward pully of the three.. I started chopping the orig mount but as its a great nasty lump of iron..... so I just couldnt use that.. I was just going to find a bit of tube or steel bar and weld one up from steel but as nothing suitable was to hand I found an offcut of aluminium bar and some plate.. roughed it out.... and showed it the tig thats about 10000000 times lighter than the orig.. and it fits!! one thing I didnt think of though was that even thoung the front pully has 3 grooves but the water pump only has 2.. so I thought about making a spacer but instead found a few more offcuts of ally that looked perfect.. it needed the center filling so I cut a plate and welded it in then span it up on the lathe.. presto a ally pully that even lines up.. thats all for now.. si

Lovely work! I feel guilty for letting it sit in the shed for so long now! Haven't been able to get over to my dads yet to have a look for those parts as work's been hectic and needed to get the skoda ready for the road but I'll try and pop over tomorrow and hopefully drop into A52 sometime on saturday before work.

wow- lovely work and such a good idea fitting a diesel! Here in NZ we don't pay tax on diesel at the pump- we instead buy diesel tax in 1000 km lumps which you display on a ticket in the window called road user charges. The amount charged depending on vehicle weight - about $30 on a car per 1000. Now most modern cars have speedos you cant disconnect so easily without upsetting the brain. But old cars...like our 1985 toyota van...easy.
so very cheap motoring!

You are a strange, strange individual B8D, but one who i like already. I've already greatly enjoyed reading this as i rather like diesel myself. You MUST run a straight through exhaust for that tractor/ industrial equipment sound goodness!

Must be in by now. nuh.. sorry to dissapiont but ive been let astray the last few days trying to get a very shonky old honda 200 running and turning into a cheep bobber/chop/cafe racer thing.. but will get back on it tomoz... the other side of the block is cleaned down and water pipes are painted.. will make gaskets and fit intake and water pipes tomorrow.. need to make top alternator adjuster and move the oil prs switch.. then onto more fun stuff like finishing the ex manifold and turbo fitting.. although I may be fitting a bigger turbo not sure yet.. I want to see if 2 bar will be enough for it.. ;D might get a EGT probe in the turbo elbow too just so I don't overdo the fuel and cook the ex valves when its in "smokescreen mode".. si
