I'd like to place a vote for the izoozy 1.5 turbo oil burner if it will fit without the IVA choppy chop agg. It's a stonking engine and cheap to run with the added benefit that it will greatly upset the brand reilgous ;D Pretty sure they love the veg too which is a bonus  The carbbed Honda VFR bike lump is strong as an ox BTW (might have room to fit 2  ). Folwers of Bristol are your friends for spares, I order stuff in the afternoon and it's here the following morning. |

If you want big v8 power, bike power or small turbodiesel, I can see the logics to go to different engine supplier. Because Ford has nothing or little to offer.
But if you want an economical engine swap, any engine that is named is not really that much better then what Ford can throw in.
The K-series is brillant, besides the gasket troubles. But a Sigma will as good (even better) as that one.
The same can be said for the Suzuki and Nissan engines compared to a small Sigma, Zetec or even an Endura.

Fancypants  I'm gonna stick my neck on the line here and say I don't think any I4 (car) engine with a 5-speed box will fit without some inner wing / chassis rail manipulation. I'll be putting a 2.0 Zetec in ours, but ya knew that already.. |

I've PMd someone asking them to measure up a CG13 in a K11 Micra on the offchance that it may go and I'm waiting back on Colon with some measurements of his Isuzu diesel but it's looking like it may be fanciful thinking. At least it will be an avenue covered and I can look at something with less cylinders or (having read the 'definition of historic vehicles' thread by Kev) chop it up and get a bulletproof Q on it. That would be incredibly cool but increases cost and buildtime by rather a lot. |

most (all) get away with a small chop out of the chassis rails, hell even rwd projects get away, so don't get hung up on that issue. just make sure if it needed to go for a test, that the work is done to a good standard which will pass the test easily. now, go out and get a small vw/toyota 4 pot, maybe that vw polo TSI engine  |

If it ever gets looked at by VOSA, or if I ever get asked about how it went together, then I'm safe in the knowledge of there being no ramifications. If I was going to chop something out, then I'd want to do other mods too to make the test worthwhile. But then if I was going to the effort of putting a car through BIVA, it sure as hell wouldn't be a Ford Fiesta |

Isn't a VR6 engine kinda short for it's size? It should be shorter than most 4-pots at least, and you can get engine covers for it with the blue oval as they were optional in the Galaxy. Not the most reliable or economic choice though....

Have been looking at these as my logical step from discovering something with 4 cylinders and 5 gears isn't likely to go. The GTTIs aren't very common are they.. Wander how tunable the N/A ones are.. Best go researching. *I know it looks like I'm just being fickle at the moment, but really I'm just relaying thought processes until I come up with a solution that suits my needs. I'll get there eventually ;D |

Ok, done some thinking, looked at various 3 cylinder FWD motors. Now there are some from 2005-onwards but youre firmly into CANbus territory there which may or may not cause headaches. things like the Skoda 1.2 and even a Mitsi 1.5 3 cylinder diesel! Sadly I think they are all worth too much. So there is only one option that is a) cheap to buy b) 3cyl FWD c) 5 speed box d) easy to get parts for and that is...... (wait for it)....... The vauxhall corsa 1.0 12v!  look how weeeeeeeee it is! According to carfolio.com its got a whole extra 7 horse and 1 extra lb/ft of torque haha. I forget are we doing this for performance or not? lol. I wonder if you can put bike carbs on it? |

Colonel Colon, it has been considered and (without measuring) I reckon it would almost definitely fit. But as Phil said, when it's from a car that would normally have 4 cylinders, I can't help but think it's just less. Bit different from a Daihatsu because they were almost all 3 cylinder so it seems correct. However, after a couple PMs, it would appear we have a winner! And after a conversation yesterday I have refined the winning idea down to the exact spec I want. Extracted from a PM for explanation...  This engine bay of the donor is 78cm wide x 55cm deep Engine: approx 70cm high (with air box (not shown)) 41cm wide measuring from pulley on the right to tin plate clutch cover on right (flywheel remember will be within the gearbox)   5 speed box is 35cm wide Those of you with good mental arithmatic will spot that that puts the overall width at 76cm, which is narrow enough to go between the chassis rails. It puts out 50something BHP as stock, but with air filter and exhaust sorted it should go up to 60ish, not having a cat will give me a bit more, and parts interchangeability means that I can upgrade cheaply with large (proportionate to original power) gains. Many thanks to Swollen for braving the cold to measure stuff, take photos and give advice, and to BiAS who gave more advice that confirmed everything Phil had said and helped me choose the exact spec I want to use. Most of you will have figured by now.. That's a Fiat Seicento engine bay and the F.I.R.E. engine that is going to go back in it. My chosen spec is actually exactly the one that Phil took photos of, an 1108, 8valve, SPI unit. Time to get hunting for a donor |
