lewisk78 in da house: I wonder how well the project is going
There are a couple of Amazon rolling around with those Volvo "Penta Marine" V8's under the hood here in Sweden, a couple built by Volvo "Skunk Works" among them a beautyfull Amazon Wagon done verry US inspired with wood flooring in the back, extra chrome, auto box etc, rumours has it the car was to be shiped to the States for an Auto Show but Volvo scraped the project partly because of problems with gear boxes but mostly because the motor was extremely heavy, worked fine in trucks & boats but in a Amazon that's already light in the rear it was a no go...
To bad since it sounds real cool and a V8 Amazon is a cool concept.....

Yea, it does sound ace. Interesting projects.
It intruiges me how much that Merc V8 sounds quite 'yank-ish'. My dad has always drilled it into me that they don't sound "the same" .....
Shame they're so wide that fitting them in anything smaller would be quite a fight, I guess.

Sorry real hard to find anything on the web on these cars, way back in the late 70's these cars were common visitors to Vallåkra Träffen, the biggest Volvo event in the world but at that time the digi-snapper & the internet was not yet invented and I guess there's not that much documentation around. I don't know if the cars are still around, heard rumors that IPD in the States now owns one of the "Skunk Works" cars, Volvo is most likely sitting on some and some might be in public hands. Personally I have not been attending Vallåkra since the early 80's so I'm not that in the loop with the current Volvo sceene but every now and then these cars show up at a cruise night or show, I have heard....
Just a short story: My dad worked for Tudor batteries in the late 50's and early 60's and one day he had to go to the Stockholm Auto Show with a new battery for one of the Volvo Amazon V8 but since there were no Volvo Amazon V8 he had to bring a couple but none fitted so they had to tow the car to Tudor where he fitted the correct battery and drove it back to the Car Show. He said it was a nice car but way to nose heavy....
Google: Vallåkra träffen, Volvo Vallåkra, etc.
