Provided you are over 25 - get anything that qualifies as a classic (owners club membership always helps) can go as silly as you like poke wise for a very reasonable sum Costs me £285 per year to insure a 377 bhp rear wheel drive saloon/supercar fully comp and agreed miles on a classic policy!!!!

I've been in a similar situation to you and have only recently become a policy holder rather than named driver (and declared principle user). If you want an idea of classic car insurance, try here: www.lancaster-ins.co.uk/quick/LISQQ_intro.htmAll online, so it's easy to adjust the variables to see what makes the difference Only thing is that they don't like modded stuff at all - £400 for my Amazon if unmodded, £1500 modded* *but £500 modded from Adrian Flux ;D

Lancaster accept drivers from 21 years old. However, if I was 23, they'd have quoted £595 rather than the £405 as a 25 year old - basically, it appears to be an extra £100 (ish) for every year younger than 25, but it only drops to £395 if I was 26.

The problem with alot of classic policies is that they don't build you any NCB. When you are forced to get something newer in a few years you could come unstuck. Also, some will only insure your classic if it is your second car. And the car you bought and is in your partners name doesn't count. A$$holes

I'm with SureTerm for the 'rocco - classic insurance, i'm 26 years old and they're happy for it to be both my main car, and my daily commuter ride. 6000 miles per year for 220ish quid.
only prob is, like NickB says, they don't ask for any NCB so neither do they build it - i've got to either go on 'real' insurance when mine comes up in March (I'll use my 3 years on the wife's mondeo, she can insure my rocco or summat) or lose it. most places ignore NCB that's been stagnant for a year.

well, as i've only been a named driver, i've got no ncb anyway, even though i've never made a clame, i'm screwed till i'm 25 anyway, so, to more years without getting any ncb won't bug me that much. Then when i'm 25, it should all come down a bit, and i can start building up my ncb. as for the only/second car bit, my old boy metioned that... on lancaster, (where i'm getting these quotes), one of the questions is... "how many cars in your household, including this vehicle", then the options are "1" or "2 or more", now i read that to mean if you click "1", you are implying that this is you only car. but it's summit i'm gonna have to check with them.
i've just got a quote for a Lancia Delta Integrale 8v turbo 4wd thats on eBay, only came back as 1020 quid, not bad. I still don't get why that cav was nearly 3 grand, non of my other quotes have been anything like that...weird.

As the question is 'how many cars in your household', not 'how many cars you personally own', eg if you live at home & your parents also have cars, then the correct answer is '2 or more'. If they ask how many cars you have, then that's a different matter.

Yes this happened to me, i lost 3 previous years no claims simply because i had gone onto classic insurance for 2 years afterwards. They said "Your no claims bonus is erased after 2 years if it isnt used"........... WTF?!? If its erased, how come they can tell me how many years no claims i previously had?!? A "no claims bonus" should do exactly what it says on the tin- IT SHOULD BE PROOF OF NOT CLAIMING Instead it is a rediculous points scheme, where you can PROTECT your no claims, and even BE AWARDED A YEAR OR TWO EXTRA NO CLAIMS AS AN INCENTIVE TO TAKE OUT A POLICY! i find it so irritating. I'll never go back to standard insurance with all its no claims bullsh*t You know what irritates me more than that? People don't claim on their insurance FOR FEAR OF LOSING THEIR PRECIOUS NO CLAIMS BROWNIE POINTS! WTF is the point in having it then! For the motorist, insurance is the biggest a*se raping of them all. Yet no one tackles the insurance companies who relentlessly hike their prices year after year Sorry, not only have i gone OT but ive ranted like a mad man Back to you!

Whats wrong with that then? You build up 5 years no claims, then clobber a tree and write off your old clunker which is only worth £250 anyway. I wouldnt bother claiming for that!!! Whats the problem?

Whats the problem? Agreed..... when i was tearing around in the quattro (total worth: 250 quid) and paying nearly six hundred for fully comp, if i'd have written it off i'd have dragged it back to the scrapyard it came from and handed it over. Once you figure in the excess and the extra i'd pay a year for losing the NCB it's daft to claim. mind you the woman that hit the missus's mondeo thought she'd pay cash for the repairs when the dozy bint rolled her cavalier into it. that's until we took it to a main dealer and showed her the quote for 980 quid for a 2mph impact i guess she lost her NCB then!

Whats the problem? I suppose so. But i think its the fact that i would feel in the scenario you describe that i shouldnt claim, when ideally insurance should protect you from losing out in any scenario, weather its £250 or £20,000 worth of damage, without the fear or MAJOR reprocusions. For what we pay anually, i don't think the current policy of losing your no claims completely for any claim, weather its a minor knock or a full on write off; is flexible enough. Which is why i'd rather opt out of the whole points scoring and losing game and stick with classic insurance..... especially since ive already had all of my little gold stars taken away for "not using them for 2 years".
