On the engine I've changed all the core plugs, broken manifold studs, all the large gaskets (sump, valve covers, manifolds etc) and chucked some new temporary oil in. The sump neaded a bit of TLC (with a hammer) because it was stoved-in and touching the oil pick-up so, seeing as it was off, I gave it a coat of paint. Next I decided to answer that question that's probably been on all our minds for so long.............. "Can you fit a 383 big block back into a C-body in your lunch break on your own? OK maybe not everyones mind but I was wondering................... .....................Um..... yeah, you can

what about RR gathering ?? Nah, still got the rest of the body to do and fit the juice. Next year hopefully are you keeping the AC pump? those things are super heavy Yes it acts as an idler for the alternator so I'm leaving it on for now Judging by the several sheets of 3mm steel in the chassis and the 1/4 of a ton of batteries in the boot, + pumps, lines, rams I doubt he's bothered by an extra 15kg of A/C compressor ;D ;D It was only 2 sheets but they were 6mm not 3mm a tad over 20 kilos actually, and you can't get the gas for that old stuff now. I happen to know someone who claims to have access to some of the old school naughty gas you speak of so I'm hoping to get the air-con going again one day

I'm not sure R12 is illegal to have, but you do have to have the correct permits ect, i think is is illegal for a garage to fill you car with it and I know it's illegal to empty your system by venting it to atomshphere, but i think you're higly unlikely to get done for filling your own car with it.. either way i'd just convert to 134a it's no biggy usually..

Ahh, I didn't realise it was a do-able conversion, thanks for the info. In the 12 or more years I've had the car the A/C has never worked but as there is a bottle of R12 kicking around, I'll test the system with that first and if it's ok I'll probably convert to R134a

I'd be tempted to just fit a modern pump and hoses, then you will have modern fittings for the filling gear and can run r134a. It will be lighter and smaller. Considering doing that on my Fury. I don't really like AC or need it but I do like things to work if they are there.
