They are getting quite rare here too. Rust, rallying and banger racing... The fact that they were discontinued in 1984 also makes them harder to find than a 244 or 245 that was produced until 1993.

There's things I'd do differently, but contrary to what I keep being told, I know this is exactly the kind of thing RR is supposed to be about.
It's a yes from me.

those wheels look so wrong on that car, the car it self though is full of huge amounts of win!

I see nothing wrong with the wheels, looking' too busy on the indoors pic, but on the daylight pictures they suit the car very well, even if they aren't very retro.

What an immensely cool car! Thanks for finding more pics. I think the wheels work too. I echo Rmad's post - this is what RR is about!

Thats very nice indeed. I agree that i'd raise the rear a smidge, it gives the illusion of reverse rake. Otherwise perfect imo.

With the interior and exterior looking so stock I'd be very tempted to have a set of standard wheels lying around too ;D ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (The sound of a sleeper.)

OK Volvo spotters, theres a Red 242 smoking about Watford with a little old lady driving it, and its RHD, saw it a couple of times about 6 months ago, and its been spotted again, but not by me.

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

Also, the brakes does not appear to be stock either - at least they do look bigger so maybe it would not be very easy to fit the original 14" steelies over them.
Keep in mind too - this is Sweden. The country where 16" tri-spokes or 17" Venoms still are considered better than 15" banded steelies, cause hey, after all they are alloys, and BIGGER, everyone knows that bigger rims are always better, and that alloys always beat steelies, right?
(That's one of the reasons why I prefer RR over most swedish forums - but that's a completely different story)

volvo544special65 : I find that the Swedish forums seem to be more American influenced, so you end up with Pro-Touring style cars like this Volvo, so big wheels + a bit of tuck

Yeah - we have quite a few cars in that style, but to be honest, it is interesting to see that style built on european cars too - a Volvo 242 are quite a welcome break after thousands of Camaros... (Not that I don't like Camaros but you get the point).
However, what I was thinking more of was that many people here seems to end up with huge rims, tasteless bodykits and wings, neon lights under the car, M3 E36 mirrors on EVERYTHING from Volvo 343s to Ferraris (fortunately that fad seems to have ended now), clear taillamps, everything covered in fake carbon fiber and of course the paint should be Volvo lazer blue...
No thinking about standing out from the crowd, no thinking about that different mods suits different cars... When I had my first car (the 1975 Kadett Estate, that I still have but in need of restoration), it always gathered negative opinions because I didn't have M3 E46 mirrors (SIC!), didn't have 17" or bigger rims, no bodykit, no window tint, no boombox in the back and so on... Just imagine how a Kadett C estate would have looked done that way (it would be prettier to look at an old puke, I guess)...
That's why I rather watch british or german sites, they are better when seeking inspiration, AND, it seems like that being different is considered more positive here.
But of course we have some awesome cars in Sweden too, but I guess that you understand what I want to say...

Great car, espcially so for the combination of stock aesthetic elements & colour with such major mechanical upgrades. With the interior and exterior looking so stock I'd be very tempted to have a set of standard wheels lying around too ;D I think that 16" or so Volvo steels are available (from an S80??) - the 500 or so bhp Amazon that GiS reviewed had a set of them, possibly banded slightly. They would look absolutely scweet on this 242!
