Okay, for those on the site with Model car knowledge (and I know theres quite a few! ) I need advice/help Was the 'BOOTHILL' Express ever re-released? ...and how many times / what years? AND... Can anybody tell me anyhting more about this 'fun kit' from the 60'S and again was it re-issued? Due to me making Military Vehicle models and Custom Car models 'Rommel's Rod' would surely be the best Amalgamation of a Kit for me. I realise these vehicles (and the last one was never real/ pure fantasy) are not to everybodys taste, but they sure do appeal to my warped mind ;D Thanks

You could try by starting a search for the Rat Fink kits and working your way from there, they seem the kind that would appeal to those type of fans.
I think they are great.

That Merc was originally made by Heller in the late '70s / early '80s (who did a great range of prewar cars in 1:24 - I have loads!) & is a very nice model. Quite fiddly though, as the entire bonnet sides & door skins are chrome, so need very careful masking-off in order to keep the lines crisp. The only chrome areas that need to be painted silver / bare-metal-foiled are the strakes on the running boards & also on the outer part of the wings - impressive detail for such an old kit.

Paul H: You are obviously into model car kits (as well as me) So could you help me with a problem... ...do you remember these by Airfix Cortina as 'Kansas Kruiser' Capri as 'Krackle Kat' & Zodiac as 'Night Prowler' They were launched in 1981 and only sold for one year as Airfix (as original company) went bust, although Paris, France subsidary remained, the rest was bought out by Humbrol and for a while any new kits were released under 'Heller' name which still exists to this day.) And here is my question....There was going to be a forth 'Custom Car' based on the Vauxhall Victor estate and be called 'Rebel Rouser' (It is listed in the '81 Airfix catalogue but never actually appeared ...officially ) They were all based on original 60'S/70'S Airfix kits and inturn just Modified (in much the same way as a real car of the day ) If anyone has a picture of 'Rebel Rouser' (The Victor Estate) I would be interested to see Thanks

Sorry, I've no idea about these ones - the first I knew of them was when you posted them up before!
I'm guessing that the Victor is the FD, rather than the 101? I think I've seen the normal ones on eBay. The smallest that I build is 1:24, so I don't know much about them.

Yes the Victor was the FD (I think an Estate just went on Ebay recently) Sorry to have repeated myself As you have probably gathered my model car world is a bit warped! ;D

Sorry to have repeated myself No worries, and I didn't mean it as a criticsm What are you building at the moment? I've nearly finished a Bandai 1:16 Mercer Raceabout - like this: except it has artillery wheels, and wings / running boards. :-)

Hey twincam, I nearly fell off my chair when you posted those old Airfix kits having built the Cortina and Zephyr in the year of their release. I have a photo of me from around 1983 posing next to a real life incarnation of the Cortina, albeit in green, at a local custom car show. I'm currently on the forum of Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine, American, but with an international following. www.scaleautomag.comI'm another keen modeller here on RR, but without oodles of time. Current project is a Revell BMW, which is really an Austin 7. Paul H, look away now! It's being rat rodded........Pics in progress to follow (they are at work).

As a 7 year old, I swapped my 1/32 austin maxi kit for 4 battered matchbox toys. Not a shrewd move at all. I vaguely recall those 1/32 custom car kits. Did Airfix actually make those cars in the sixties as standard kits? I'd like to see Heller re-release all those gems. I bought a 3 car 1/32 kit consisting of the MK1 Escort, Triumph Herald and MG in the early 90's.....asides from the MG and DB6 I've not seen anymore recently in the shops.

Hmmm... you do have a very good point as it was 1981 (MAD MAX2 and release of these vehicles ) Still the '56 Chevy Nomad And then it's yet another Centurion Tank I have far two much time on my hands ;D

So that would be the BMW DIXIE? ...I like Austin Sevens so would be interested to see (and I don't mind if car is custom or stock I like ALL!) Ooh the Maxi, very nice Believe it or not (And I doubt people will ) but the moulds for this kit were discovered in a Warehouse in France, it was believed to be part of a lost shippment that was going to be stored in Paris. The reason being that Airfix went bust (for first time) in 1981 but Paris France subsidary did not, hence transportation of some items for storage to France . The moulds were in a teribble state due to bad storage and the owners of Airfix today state they are not salvagable They sure did

Ohhh those Arfix kits brings me back to beeing 10-12 years old, remeber them in a plastic bag with a piece of cardboard folded on top, man was that a loooong time ago. I have built most of those Arfix 1:32 scale kits, the Austin Maxi is not one of them but the Cortina, Capri and Zodiac I remeber gluing up..... Think I have posted my flat black Rat Fink Bug before but here we go again...... I found this Minicraft 1:16 scale A Ford Delivery kit in a junk shop this summer, it was unopened and complete and the dude sold it for 2Euro to me..... ....so now it's beeing built this style with the help of a Revell 64 Mustang 1:16 kit..... Sadly there's not much time for gluing these days......

Paul H: That Skoda kit despite being a 'Snap-together' Kit/ Toy is actually rather acurate. I got mine when in Prague in Christmas '93. dp: I was hoping your comments would join this thread (you being a good source of knowledge for 'rods' ) The 'A' should look superb if made like that real one Like your Matt bug kit as well, except ...... needs different (or not so shinny) wheels.
