This has turned into a brilliantly epic thread already ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) So I will post these: ![](http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m133/richard_aston/photoshopkopie3va.jpg) ![](http://i44.tinypic.com/fd7yc3.jpg) ![](http://i40.tinypic.com/24btbaw.jpg) ![](http://i39.tinypic.com/2ylusjt.jpg) ![](http://i42.tinypic.com/fc60zo.jpg) to redress the balance. Which came from this thread about Rover 400s a few weeks ago that also ended up like a sneering Barry boys cast-off.... ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I think this era of Rover could look pretty cool with sympathetic treatment. But personally, I'd leave it basically as is, learn to drive in it and put the effort into your Golf. Think it would be a shame to scrap it after the effort you put in.

Superb cars mate, any way everyone does golf,s and its s good to see something diffrent having a solid car should save a lot of time and effort. Some of the curse word that some people modify and do up makes me wonder why anyone would be so down rovers .If any one wants to moan and be sarcastic about peoples cars i will post pictures of my 1995 cavalier gls hatch then they will have something worthy of sacastic comments .I might get around to putting pictures of my 71 triumph 2000 if it don't rust away away in the meantime.

Sorry thought this was retro rides The interior of these is made entirely out of '80s-style grey plastic and they were built by a company that no longer exists. That's pretty retro ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Personally guys if you don't like his car why don't you click the X in the top corner.
Personally I like the little 200 shape, it was their swansong really in decent cars.
To the OP, simple mods work nicely on these, as for the haters well, let them grow up and stop being bloody primary children.
Bloody keyboard warriors.

I like this forum cos it seemed supportive of summat different, with all the haters coming out of the woodwork, it'll end up like every other forum- full of d ickheads. If you like it and no one else does- that's retro. Go your own way

mate the wife drives this ![](http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z12/l33dwc/plateBlurred.jpg) 40k on clock, had it since 2002 and has gone thru every mot. I do my own servicing/repairs on it. apart from tyres and exhausts and a yearly service has cost us hardly a penny. Needs work this year mind but a couple hundred quid will get her right.oh and she is only a 211 To the people who knock them, Try one, as you may be surprised.

Some thing that gets me is if you hate something don't look or comment on it it realy is that simple . For a start I never said I hated it, if you can read I just said it was hardly retro. You called my car rough and you have never seen it and it's no where near finished, god I hate the little people who make judgements without knowing, yep there's a name for them :

Wasn't one of the reason that Rover went bankrupt that the 200/400 series was too retro already back then, when they were new too? ;D

Your Passat is the one with the bench seat in it isn't it? I'd have loved to have done that in my Golf.
But yeah, thanks to the kind words and ideas on the car. That White 211 looks lovely! My mate has a 211 with 108k on the clock, he rags it about everywhere and done around 8k since his headgasket was done and apart from that, its all it has cost him! Great little cars to be honest!

I passed my test in a 1 litre one of these, one of the first just after they stopped making the metro (rover 100) back in 1998. I would just leave it alone, sell it & get something older, the insurance on classic stuff is so cheap, it's gotta be the best way of getting your NCB, that's what I've done anyway, got a 1985 BMW 525e fully comp for £350, with no NCB & one accident (which wasn't my fault but seems to count against me anyway). Oh & (dare I say it on here) I hate golfs! Had one once, can't see what all the fuss is about, get rid of it & get youself a nice little 3 series beemer, e21 or e30.

Who'd of thought a Rover 214 would cause so much of a stir! Ha! Looks like a tidy example Lex, I'd be inclined to leave it as it is myself and concentrate on the Golf, but those Civics could be good for inspiration if you did decide to mod it.

That's an excellent vision! Perfectly achievable too.
May I suggest deleting the side trim, and the chrome strips on the font bumper too? Possibly colour-coding the door-handles aswell.
Clean, simple and useable daily driver. Nice one!
