I'm very jealous you've got the proper tyres on your RSW. If you find out where to get them let me know In other news I managed to completely wreck my 20 at Critical Mass. Brake cable snapped so I had to stop it like back in the 80's with my foot on the back tyre, then one of the cotter pins worked loose and it's mangled the crank. I might just weld it up because it keeps doing it...

Just worth scoping out ebay constantly for dunlop balloon , or raleigh rsw / rsw16 If i see any tho ill let ya know.. I don't need any myself as mines a mk2, and the red mk1 is going to my grandad on the weekend..... Nearly got it all uptogether now, Re did the front brake cable thru its original sleeve, And sanded the shine off all the brake pads and now it goes and stops.. Just gotta sort one of the pedals as its a bit foobar and then itll be perfect Shame about your twenty tho dude, Do you need a crank for it? I might have one here somewhere....

then one of the cotter pins worked loose and it's mangled the crank. I might just weld it up because it keeps doing it... You probably just need a new pin. The axles and cranks are very hard steel, but the pins are quite soft, so if they come loose and the crank creaks then it'll work a notch into the pin and you'll never get it tight. Support under the pin with an old seatpost or bit of tube, whack it out with a hammer, then grease and re-install a new one in the same fashion. Ride it for a few miles, re-whack with a hammer, tighten the nut, hammer, nut etc. Do this every couple of days of riding until it doesn't go in any further. Modern pins do seem to be softer than NOS ones from the 60s though, so they'll need replacement more often.

Shame about your twenty tho dude, Do you need a crank for it? I might have one here somewhere.... Mine isn't a Twenty, it's a chopped up Universal shopper so the bottom bracket is original Chinese non standard size. I found an eBay seller who does loads of cranks at various lengths so I might see about replacing it, though this would need new chainring etc as well. The cheap option is to just weld it. You probably just need a new pin. The axles and cranks are very hard steel, but the pins are quite soft, so if they come loose and the crank creaks then it'll work a notch into the pin and you'll never get it tight. Last time it happened it par-mangled the slot on the crank, so I had to dress the surface. That meant the new cotter pin went in too far and wouldn't get much purchase. It's probably new crank time I think, and I'll put that fixed gear on the back at the same time.

If you can get some measurements for your bb I might have one. I broke an apollo shopper a while back so it might be the same.. Was different from my other shoppers but cant rememeber the size of the shell...

Seems I'm getting the RED RSW back in exchange for the green r20 above... Got a call from my nan saying they went for a ride but he just cant get on with the rsw... Its the reason I did say to them that if they prefer one over the other I can get others.... She took me up on that offer and said they went another r20 as she and he both love the one I gave her... ;D So ive devised a plan. To ride from my house here, APPROX 10miles to their house on the green standard r20 tommorow. Do the swap then ride the rsw home On a comical note. Ill have to take the original white saddle with me as he'll be taking his off the rsw. So ill need my backpack on... Which has a port merrion (THE PRISONER) badge on it haha. Red and white mk1 rsw's were ridden around the garden on that series

Could be tonight's job in fact

that sounds like a Thomson bottom bracket you have. as used on a lot of european bikes. bottom bracket shell on the frame is smooth internally. has push in cups, bit like a BMX. but smaller diameter than any screw in cups. you can get replacement bottom bracket/ axle and bearings. not as common over here tho.
I had a Polish roadster that had a Thomson bb. good bike. gave it to my uncle

I was doing some voluntary work. litter picking the woods. I biked there on my woods bike. when we were standing near some garages. a man came to get stuff from his container. he put a white Raleigh folding bike at the door. got stuff in his land rover and away. a few times. dump is nearby. was going to ask what was hapening to the bike. But it wasnt a Twenty. was a Compact..or whatever there named. thick curved tube. like my white Appolo. maybes better than a Twenty. as other cranks and stuff, bolt on easier to these late 80s Raleighs.

Just done a Google search, Wikipedia etc and it looks identical Edit: and there's one on eBay for about £6 delivered. Could be salvageable after all

Hi Guys
Just thought i`d mention this here,
I`ve got a top quality pair of black alloy 20x1/38 36 hole Ukai bmx rims that are a perfect upgrade for a Raleigh Twenty type bike For Sale,(Also have a spare pair of Schwalbe tyres For sale in that size to)
I work in a bike shop and spent years looking for some rims for my Dawes Kingpin so I bought 2 sets but don`t really need both
£40 Posted for the rims £25 Posted for the tyres
Cheers Adrian

Here's my environmentally sustainable transport solution: I found it in a skip and have since pimped it up a bit with SA 3 speed hub, weinmann front brake, nicer old seat (also from a skip), drop bars, slightly larger 20x1 1/4" wheels etc. It currently owes me a tenner for the tyres... It folds up small enough to fit in the boot of the Nat. Express coach up to London (can't afford train) and then hoon round Town tryin' to embarrass fakengers on their fixies.

^^^^ Thats awesome!
Just picked up 2 folders last night, one of them is a nice brown stratton (sp??) and one is a more modern light blue Winchester. Gona swap the gears from the blue one (SA 3 speed) to the brown one (single speed) then probably flog the blue one.
Will get some pics up when i see some daylight / get them out of the breadvans boot.

I found a Dawes Kingpin abandoned in the street. Someone had evidently dragged it out of a garage. So I took it home and did it up. Before: After: Its had new tyres, inner tubes, cables, chain, rear reflector, pedals and paint. Brilliant quality, despite being outside for years, all the oily bits still run smooth.

Ahhhh just found this thread I bloody love these bikes, I owned one when I was younger, well I say owned - I took it from a skip and put my sisters old child's bicycle wheels on it, they were too small of course and the pedals scraped when pedalling around corners, but it was pretty good! I'd love another, it's a shame my shed is full of rubbish and kids bikes or I would squeeze one in,
I'm loving the tandam further up! What a great idea!
