Trawling through old posts I've seen a few comments like:
...only 4 left in the country...
How do you know how many of a particular car/model are still in existence?
I know the DVLA would have this info', but is it available to mortal man. Are these guesses, estimates, club info' or what?

I think it is under "Freedom of information" act or something. You need to pay, but I think you can get the number of a particular model, and even just the reg plates, but not owners details.
One of the Skoda owners club guys did it for the Estelle/Rapid models, cost something like £40, but in Ireland it was far cheaper for one of their guys to do it.

There is no need to pay. The information is made freely available by the DVLA. The person to contact is: Mu'azu Aguye Department for Transport (DfT) Statistics Roads 1 Zone 2/16 Great Minster House LONDON SW1P 4DR Tel: (020) 7944 3077 GTN (3533) 3077 E-mail: mu'azu.aguye(at)dft(dot)gsi(dot)gov(dot)uk In a fit of greed we (Club Peugeot UK) asked for the vehicle stats for every single Peugeot model since 1960 and we got them, including all trim varients and special editions!! Single car details can be supplied over the phone but more complex requests take a while and are sent via e-mail There's a thread on this here: retrorides.proboards29.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1128153577

What form did the results take? In previous years we at the Datsun OC got similar figures from the SMMT, I recall it showing bodystyle, engine size, manul/auto. I think there was some confusion on the various Cedric/Laurel models in particular.
Also, what is it based on? Is it cars currently/recently taxed?
Sounds like we should get updated figures from the DfT. So they don't get inundated with similar requests, would it be worth posting when anyone makes contact to avoid duplication?

The data held is usually limited to Manufacturer Model Colour Body style Engine Capacity Type of Fuel It's the same data you get from the RAC - www.rac.co.uk and click on My RAC then Vehicle Data Check The data is submitted manually, i.e. there's no automated process from the manufacturer to guarantee that your car will listed a certain way. I saw a listing for a mk2 VW Polo on the VDC site that had it down as a 5-door..... in particular 'model' could miss out special editions, trim levels etc

hee hee. Our list from DVLA of every Peugeot contained a reference to 1 of a model 4007 registered. We asked peugeot about it and they said it was a mstake on the part of the DVLA. Ooops 4007 is the new top secret Pugeot 4x4. Looks like Peugeot Uk have one registered on the road somewhere! Our contact at Peugeot was VERY unamused!!

Sounds more like a misprint and pure coincidence, as a prototype would be far more likely to be running on trade plates than actually being DVLA registered, let alone under the correct model designation.

When I had my 504 I wrote to Peugeot in France (the details were in the CPUK magazine) and got a certificate giving the date of manufacture ect.
Do they still do that?

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

I would say it was a co-incidence if our contact wasn't soooo curse word about the info being available. Mattblack, how did you get the magazine, are you a member? Yes indeed L'adventure Peugeot (the official museum in Framnce) will still do this for owners
