Its a Volvo, its a brick, tonnes of character, hightly modifiable, cheap, it rocks. End of story.

forget the "heavy" now there big cars with big power and there not all that overweight, my granpa had them for over 40 years (has a 4x4 now as its easyer to get in with his bad back) the things will quite happily go over 200k we had a 944TD with almost 400k......theres a yank with a P1800 boasting over 2,000,000miles on the clock i had a 245GLT for the field approx 1.3tons and 150bhp ok with the high throttle driving and powersliding round cones at 50+mph it would do a gallon in 10 minutes, heard so many crash storys bout the old volvos they really are built to save lives.... "huge accident on some motorway, transit sitting on its roof almost sliced in half, officer asks wheres the arcticulate lorry that must of done this, a woman points over to the field "thats my car" sitting in the corn is a 480 (late 80's early 90's sports coupe volvo) like a wedge hit the transit at 70ish just threw it into the air she volvo then rolled into the field and she walked out nice 240 story now......mate sitting at traffic lights with quite a posh new BMW in front....transit goes into the back of him.....transits front end is written off and the BMW is almost written off, with a few scratches on the volvo ;D ;D ;D really my spirtual home in cars is with the volvo, soon as i have a job to afford insurance and the cost of running one ill have a 244GLT+T {oh check my site for my ol volvo www.240st.tk go to the links page and take a look at the jesus 242, hunchback Pv444

This week, ive seriously considered buying a BMW M535i, yes the one that didnt go on ebay is still for sale, and large student overdrafts are very dangerous! Me and a mate were thinking of going halves, we decided we really should wait till we finish studying!

Parents had a head on crash with a Lamo Mershialago thing (however you spell that) racing an unidentified Peugeot, rekoned to be doing around 90 mph. There was nothing left of the Lamo other than the rear axel, the Volvos front left crumpled and roof warped, saved their lives. Dad still today says how when the police and medics arrived they asked what car they were driving and when they heard it was a Volvo the doc said 'oh they'll be alright'

We had another short break in Newquay last weekend - gave the Wedgie a good run out ;D On the way down we always have the same conversation about what would be the ideal 'retro' car to complete the 500+ round trip and yet would be suitably 'cool' to run around in whilst at Newquay - we normally end up deciding on something big and comfy like an old merc or something - a 144 Volvo like the white one would be just the ticket I reckon BTW How BLUE is that interior?

SteB i think we're thinking along the same lines, pre uni no debt at all, after loads of crazy ideas. i have a feeling my 2 current major projects have to stay priority for this year tho Would love a Volvo, my old 360GLE put me off a bit, but my folks were in volvo owners club and the national rally was a feast with all volvos classic and new (80's-90's). Dad had a late 164 in gold, 264 in met blue and 760's, and i have good memories apart from feeling sick cos it was a bit stuffy inside and burning my legs on the black leather seats in summer. So i know what samy means, volvos built properly, big chunky doors and panels, and for the first time i mean heavy in a positive way , theres room for a fiesta too though...

1 series are great, just as practical as later RWD Volvos, but slightly more retro to look at, and you could still stick more modern Volvo engine and running gear in there with ease, which would make for a seriously useable 70s saloon.
