We've had 'Random Wheel thread' so I thought (being a bit of a Spotlight junky) that a Random Spotlight/foglight/auxillary light thread would be fun Heres my favorite firm I've always liked the Cibie Oscar range All still available but it is getting harder to get the 'Chrome rim versions' of the Oscar and Super Oscar Anybody have any 1960's, 70's and 80's Cibie Sales brochure pics to post up (a 1972 Cibie Sales brochure went for £7. on Ebay recently! ) Oldest brochure I have is 1989/90 brochure with Suzuki SJ410 on front with enough lights on it to make a Mods Lambretta Blink ;D.

Older Hella's I'm also a bit partial too. For under the bumper of a 80's car I like to see 'Hella' '450' or '550' rectangular Foglamps.

Oooh I might have an old Hella brochure somewhere... I'll dig it out. This is actually quite a timely thread for me. I took delivery last week of an eBay bargain, some spotlamp brackets for my Golf. The sort that go under the bumper. So I'm toying with whether to fit them or not, and if I do, what sort of spots to put on. Any recommendations for some old-skool ones? Matt-black rather than chrome-backed and rectangular Do I go for yellow ones or white? Or do I go for a single, yellow, round one on one side, sort of old-skool Beetle influence?

I think those Hella 550'S would be ideal.
They come up on ebay from time to time in mint/boxed unused condition.

SteB, those must be bigger than 550's (there was a larger 3-- something range) and don't look right above the bumper

On the front of the Mini I've got a set of Super Oscars... ...refurbed by me, satin black and new wiring. These replaced a set of Hello Comet 500s that had 120W bulbs and steady bars ;D I bought some standard Mini spotlight brackets and TIG'd a some 3mm extension plates to them as the Oscars are so deep. Fitted with stainless bolts and nylocs of course On the back I've got a Lucas spotlight, not sure which model but picked it up for £20, sealed beam but very bright You can't beat decent lightage on a singletrack road in the middle of the night ;D *anorak on* Fellow Mini enthusiasts might have noticed that being an 'S' plate 1000 it should have the later spec rear lights that were fitted from August '77 but I prefer the Mk2 units *anorak off* ;D

I had a centre-mount spotlamp like that on my Mini Wired it in to a seperate switch on the dash. GREAT fun at lights when you've got a mate behind you - rev the engine, look as though you're going to give it some welly off the line, then as the lights are about to turn, flick the reverse lamp on and watch the look of horror on the faces behind Handy for tailgaters, too

I find that you can go along quite nicely and pop it out of gear and edge it into reverse just enough so that the light comes on but doesn`t engage, tailgaters drop back pretty quick after that

I've got a pair of little rectangular spotlamps buried deep inside the garage somewhere, I'm not sure what type they are, I'm still undecided on whether to put them on the front, on top of the front bumper and next to the headlamps, below the front bumper next to the indicator/sidelamps, or use them as reverse lamps, attatched to the back bumper. Any opinions? Course it'll be a while before it gets to that stage, the Imp's still out in the garage in the middle of the bodywork stuff being done and the interior being finshed, then it's off to get resprayed, and then I might rig up the spotlamps.
