just phoned RH specialists as my insurance is due next month, won't insure me as I need to have a 'more modern everyday car' even though I don't drive everyday i've not rang them, but that is my situation too! My daily is a bicycle. So my Sierra V8 will be my second car, meaning i need a first car, which i have, which takes me to the shop and to fix my second car!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'm with Flux who charge £25 every time you change something. See who the real criminals are, eh? I'm with flux and they have never charged me the £25 fee. not once! Ditto - didn't charge anything when I told them about the slot mags. Didn't even hike the premium either

Declared everything (and even told them what the new stuff was replacing) so nowhere for them to hide! ;D

Are RH insuring people under 25 yet? When I last rang up the woman on the phone sounded like I'd called her a naughty word when I said I was 22.

they would insure me, I'm 22, but only if the classic was insured as a 2nd car and i had a more modern everyday car. stupid way to go about it if you ask me.

ALL mods on ALL my cars are declared. Took ages to fill out the form for the Spitfire but at least i'm safe in the knowledge that they have no get out clause if it comes to a payout !

Declare nothing, try not to crash, claim the cars stored in a vault at night and carry a Vicars dog collar in the glove box incase there are witnesses and you told them you were a Vicar. Don't give the buggers a penny more than you have to!
I despise car insurance. I have paid through the nose for it for years (this years traders insurance premium was £1020!) and on the rare occasion I've had the misfortune of having to claim I've had nothing but grief. They promise the world, feed on your worst fears, give boring gits something to boast about and fill my beloved car magazines with bloody adverts!
A whole industry based on betting that something bad happens!

Declare nothing, try not to crash,.... I fear that one day you will live to regret that philosophy. Anyway, when you declare mods on an average car, keep the descriptions generic. don't go into specifics unless you really have to. "alternative wheels" will cover anything... steels, banded steels, alloys etc. and you can chop an change them at will without having to declare a change and risk a policy amendment fee. Use as many generic terms as they are happy to let you - non-standard interior....stripped rally look, custom leather...its all good. Engine performance upgrades...K&N filter or a 16v conversion running Megasquirt. Repainted - tidy respray, matt black with a roller or graffiti. Some underwriters will ask you to list specifics, but many don't. Obviously, if you want full replacement value or an agreed valuation, then this is not a good idea, you will need to list all mods in detail.

got all the mods declared on the passat- wheels, suspension, engine, brakes, lights etc etc. I'm with brentacre and they don't change anything to update mods part way through the policy neither unless its a significant increase in BHP. they work on the basis that any suspension or aestetic upgrades don't increase the premium at all, all its only when you go up into the next bhp band they increase the premium. it cost me another £75/year to go from 112bhp to 170bhp when i changed the engine which I didnt think was too bad considering in 24 and only have one years NCB due to not having a car while I was at uni..

I did get a bit carried away on declaring the mod's to AF, on my Celica. It runs to 4 sheets... It does include stuff I doubt they're interested in though, like fitting early Gen2 Celica rear lights, and even the material the hard brake-lines were made from But at least it'd be difficult to wriggle out of any claim on a technicality or oversight. Plus I don't have any motive to hide anything anyway. It's actually quite cheap to insure the Celica (fully comp/agreed value)......way cheaper than my daily Punto!
