well I'm officially fed up. Sierra's back, finally. After folk saying they could do the work then going AWOL. Then a garage agreeing to do the job properly... and not I'm hacked off!
So without turning it into an all out winge. Lets get some ideas on what i should sell it for!
What retro's don't rust? Summut that can be used daily, Parts easy enough to get, Cheap enough to run but cool all the same (no reliants please)
Strong tho, i don't mind slow my saff is slow. But of a good size if u get what i mean

I think rust is just a simple fact of retro car ownership. There are cars that don't rust as badly as others, but they all rust. Even GRP stuff like Scimitars get rust on the chassis (such as the outriggers). It's just one of those things. Best thing to do if you don't like / can't weld, is find the most rust free example of a car that you like, and concentrate on preventative measures like cavity waxing etc.

Audi A8 - all alloy. not really retro though - they only went alloy in the '90s.
Otherwise what MercedesMan said.

Your best bet would be a galvanised car like an Audi 80 or Pug 205 sort of thing. However these will still rust but not by much if they haven't been crashed or subject to dents etc.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Depends how retro you want to go. Some early 90s stuff like mk2 golfs and mk2 sciroccos were galvanized to a pretty good standard. They still rust, but it's not that bad.

300's are a good reasonably priced fun volvo car which are easy to maintain and fix, or you could go for the bigger 200/700 series. all retro cars.
Try volvo300mania.com for inspiration or things for sale, or the volvo owners club.

Old Land rovers (and new ones) are all alluminium, so aslong as the chassis is sound, or galvanised then it can't rust.
Reliant SS1, plastic body panels, galvanised chassis as standard. All reliants have plastic bodies so any reliant.
Don't jags have alluminium bodies too?
edit, just read the OP properly and read you don't want a Reliant. :/

Not very retro, but the Audi A2 has an all aluminium body. I remember when they came out and buyers started to realise that if you have the wipers on the fastest setting, the cars would rock from side to side due to being so light ;D

Tbh, even those cars that are supposedly immune from rust will still suffer. Just takes them a lot longer than other cars of the same age. Old Land rovers (and new ones) are all alluminium, so aslong as the chassis is sound, or galvanised then it can't rust. The ally panels often suffer from galvanic corrosion, and the front bulkheads are steel, and thus dissolve nicely.

As far as 80's J cars go - T12/T72 Bluebirds are highly rust resistant (excluding lower front wings that is)
Not many peoples cup of tea, but just putting it out there.

mk2 golfs wernt galvanised but mk3 passats (1989-93) were, and are full of cavity wax from the factory. they have a couple of spots where they can rust (inside the tailgate on estates) but ive yet to see one with anything major. had to have a couple of 50p size patches welded in the sills on mine but thats just down to the silly design of the "GT" bodykit it had on. oddly mk3 passats seem to last better than their facelifted mk4 brothers.
