Last night's activities involved a blat down to London to collect more eBay treasure / landfill! Thankfully it's not actually mine but the new 'project' vehicle of my mate Meercat. It was a good excuse to go for a long drive anyhow, having just had new clutch master / slave cyls on the beemer.... About an hour to get down to tottenham... And what felt like about 3 years to get back... owing to the mini having no operational speedo, apparently square tyres and a delightful habit of trying to kill the occupant with carbon monoxide poisoning! At least we got it down to £130 as some scrotes had nicked the fuel filler! The car runs like a dream, and at least all the lights, electricking, etc all workied and we got back without incident (or the towing arm coming out of the bimmer's boot!). BUT! Rust, rust and more rust - looks like a serious grinder session will be the order of the day! Yikes! I'll try and get Chris to do a proper project thread on this ..... should be .. er.. interesting! Intention is to have the car fully sorted by next spring... although it *may* be longer....

Plenty of work ahead there! I had a W-Reg Mini City, first thing I did was get rid of those stripes on it. But now I kind of like them in a don't-see-them-anymore-retro kinda way... It lasted me a couple of years, until it failed the MOT with fairly terminal body cancer.

I think the stripes will be going....
current thinking is a very "italian job" look - 10in minilights (sorry penski!), bonnet straps, three spots, chrome grille / mirrors / bumpers etc... nothing innovative, for sure, but a nice, subtle job.
This could all change in time however...

Nick, how about 10" Mambas, instead of the Minilites? Mambas on fleabayA far more original and retro choice ;D - the only problem is that you need special nuts, but these are still available.

mambas are awesone, had them on my old mini. Looked superb! I know! I think they're great and have the additional advantage of being quite rare too, but initially I didn't like them much.... My Sprite came with a set of 13"x5.5 Mambas fitted but unfortunately they were too wide for the square rear arches They are now fitted to a friend's Frogeye though, and look superb!

i think mine were 10x6 or something. Ive wanted another mini ever since i got rid of the old one ... and it would have to wear mamba's again. If i had realised they were remotely rare i would have held onto them.

10" ones appear every now and again on eBay (either sets or individually) and don't fetch huge money but compared to minilites, they are rare. However, I've never seen another 13" set though!

JDM it, some funky little J wheels and an external oil cooler etc, whack some wide arches on and you're done.

woooooooah there!
If it was my decision to make, I probably wouldn't choose those styling cues.
But it's not up to me.
(Although I shall try to influence proceedings as best I can ;D )

Just reading that sent me to sleep........ NEXT that sounds a touch harsh mate Thats what I was thinking, i'm sure it'll look good once its done but it would be nice to see a slightly diffrent talke on the whole Mini thing I have to admit, but to slate it before its even started is a little harsh.

Sorry, but it just smacks of lack of effort... and I know that Nick has more imagination than that.... sorry mate, but thats simply not true. imagination does not equate to effort. Some people build cars along the lines of those before simply because IT WORKS and THEY LIKE IT! It doesnt mean theres any less effort or thought gone into it. You seem a little obsessed with 'things must be done differently' recently imo.

This isn't a recent thing,.. I'm always obsessed with things being done differently,.. if we didn't like things that were done differently, we all might as well buy Mondeos...
It was effort of thought I was talking about ... it's like getting a Mk1 Golf wanging a set of BBS cross spokes, slamming it over some stretched rubber and chucking on a few period accessories... Looks great,... .... but very obvious. Little thought effort required. Then take a look at the Mooneye's Golf on PVW's cover this month. It's moved that whole idea onwards, it required more mental effort,.. but probably not as much physical effort to build.
Why afterall put Budniks on your car when you know that Empi 5 spokes would look fine.?
