eye-watering photo - Volvo P1800

Judging from the numberplates and side marker lights, it's somewhere in the States.

One day, I really want an early P1800 (the one with the cowhorn bumpers) in dark grey with a red interior, and also an 1800ES (the 'estate' version) in that gorgeous light metallic blue - see middle pic, far end of the bottom row.

Looks like Texas. There's a Texas A&M parking sticker in one window. Plates may be as well.

Do you guys know the story behind the 1800ES??

Here in Sweden (home of Volvo) we had a man known as "The Motor Prince", Prins Bertil was the uncle of the Swedish King and had a hankering for cars fast and special, he lived most of his time on the French Riviera where he had a garage with a house and it was stuffed to the brim with the best from Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati, Lamborghini, Shelby and other fast cars, the days shoping was spent in a Fiat 500. He had another passion besides cars and it was golf, he was a scratch golfer and spent the time of the roads on the golf course. For one of Prins Bertils birthdays the designer of the P1800 (can't remember his name now) wanted to do something special for him, he drew the car as a one-off so the Prins could haul his golf bags in the back and Volvo produced it and presented it to Prins Bertil on his birtday, they did one more that was shown at the Geneva Motor Show and it was an instant hit, most of the cars was sold in The States and that's the story.....

Every year in may "The Prins Bertil Memorial" classic car race is driven on the streets of Stockholm, it's a gathering of cars, bikes, boats and other wheeled wonders and its a blast, I have not missed it the last 5 years. www.gardesloppet.com

The Swedish King is also a major "speed freak" every summer he's caught speeding in one of his Ferraris somewhere in Sweden and the tabloids have a ball with it.....

Great motors P1800s, I'd love an early one too, the one with the Linwood-made built body because the bumpers etc are nicer as Paul H says, I'd love to take one and stick a 960 (2.9 injected straight six) or 940 turbo's (four cylinder fuel injected turbo) engine and running gear in, seeing as it's a smaller, lighter car it'd seriously fly as well as looking bloody great!

My mates step dad used to roll around in a maroon P1800.
I've been in love with them ever since.
One of the most beautiful cars ever made.
