The VanLIVES Massive massive thanks to Graham Anderson and Malcolm Anderson for pulling out all the stops and rebuilding the transaxle and collecting / delivering it . Ive been for a short drive and guess what NO FECKIN JUDDER Because lots has been changed pinpointing the exact cause is difficult but prime candidate was the friction plate - or maybe the flywheel - or even the input shaft . Whatever its feckin works not good deffo shouldnt look like this bits of dead transaxle big jigsaw

Nice work getting that transaxle back in. The engine and gearbox combo look quite modern for the age of the car, i.e all alloy, overhead cam etc. What are they like to drive? I seem to recall they're related to the conventry climax engine. Is that right?

Driving these is like karting for the highway - absolute hoot to drive with massive grin factor every trip - unless it all goes a bit wrong

Light revvy little alloy engine over the back wheels, must be just like a go-kart! There must be quite a lot of potential for mods too, I see yours has twin carbs on it. is that standard? exhaust looks great too. Oh no I think I've found another car to add to the list

They are great fun , ive had loads of them - probably 40 or so in the last 35 years - prices are on the up and mint rare versions fetch 10 grand now - mods are an acceptable part of Imping - common mod now is BMW K100 bike engines - good for 100HP

Thats mental. I bet you could make a good sleeper for not a lot of money. I've been wanting to put an audi 5 cylinder turbo engine in something for a while now. I reckon it could just about be done. Definitely going to keep an eye open for any cheap ones local to me

Looks a little bit like a miniature avenger tiger. It's cheating putting the engine in the front though

Rebuilt stainless gear lever link bar now fitted on the Van , ive not been for a test drive but the gear lever is vertical in neutral and all gears go in no problem . You can see the last two pics the old one is very worn and it seems to be slightly bent at the lever end , theres wear grooves as well . Well pleased with the result and if the Singers one is anything to go by the gear change will be super smooth Old and new side by side , they look different lengths but they are identical Wear and kink on the old one on the right Close up of kink and wear

Is this a common mod or a fairly recent idea? Looks good.
Is been years since I drove hannahs imp so i can't remember what the gear change was like. With every thing as new goes much slack/movement should one expect to have at the gear knob end before you select a gear?

I think a few have been done before but not many - chancing apon the right diameter stainless pipe helped no end in me choosing to do the mod - i did the Singers a year ago and it felt better afterwards so i just did this one as well. Theres now no slack at all - There used to be free play side to side on the lever in any gear which did give an annoying vibrating and rattly lever at speed - its rock steady now - shift is short and precise Been for a ten mile drive - change is a little stiffer than before when its cold but better when warmed up a bit - its all working well with no judder - rebuilt box needs to be run in though so I'm sure this will just get better and better . Engine coughed once for some reason - maybe its got a cold or something

Can I ask on the pictures showing the engine what are the blue discs under the spark plugs?
