PROBLEMS PROBLEMS PROBLEMS Barnabys gearbox is miserable Doesnt like selecting 1st Crashes going into 2nd unless i change really slow Doesnt like selecting reverse at all 3rd and 4th are fine
Box has been rebuilt and only done 800 miles since fitting. I'm going to double check the flexi gear linkage thingy just to rule it out plus bleed it again . Not sure i can cope with this curse word much more

Sounds like maybe not enough tension on the selector hub springs for the 1st/2nd issue anyway.
If graunching from stationary when going for reverse / 1st the clutch spin could be a first check as you say

Barnabys new box is in . Took a staggering 8 hours at semi broken back pace 🤣 Far better box although not the greatest ever . First to second is still a bit notchy but not crashing , all other gears are good , changing down is now lovely . Strangely selecting any gear engine off with the clutch up is tricky. Dip the clutch and it all goes in fine . Oil from old box has two distinct colours in it . Bronze like colour and black , oil was correct BTW Used Castrol EP80 GL4 This box used to kick out of second quite often especially changing down. Still it moves which is the main thing , i guess the box will bed in with use 🙂 PS Barnaby is now covered in oily finger marks 🤣

So are you going to strip down the box you've removed to check what's up? Or take it back to whomever had rebuilt it (I'm presuming you had someone else rebuild it)

So are you going to strip down the box you've removed to check what's up? Or take it back to whomever had rebuilt it (I'm presuming you had someone else rebuild it) Its going back at some point . Did 40 odd miles in Barnaby today , Transaxle seems to be fine save for the very slight notchy feeling going from 1st to 2nd , all other gears are still in the box and working fine ,change down is excellent . Clutch feels perfect which after the judder scenario from a few years back is a real blessing . Felt really unrevvy though until i remembered to adjust the cable to take up the " huge " amount of slack id left in it 😳. Timings out a tooch for some reason , il dial that in on the next trip out . Not only is it still covered in oily mitt prints its also now rather wet and a bit muddy .

Update Done 500 miles in it in August running in the new transaxle , got to say overall the box is great , slightly notchy from 1st to 2nd still but much better when warm . Two weeks after the box went in it figured it would only run on 3 cylinders on tickover but on 4 when revved , i suspected an induction leak or possibly a valve but seeing as i had a NOS fully built head in the loft i figured on just fitting this , old heads been on around 17 years so why not. it came bare but over the years i aquired new valves , springs , collets etc so it is in effect a completely new head Anyhoo its running better with the new head , more grunt , more torque and strangely quieter

My 'N' reg (Smiley!) Imp rotted through at the H. I took out the tank, bolted two plates on the inners & got them welded round...
Kwalitee Bodge, 1st Class 🤣
Good to see you trotting on 👍😉

Well things got brutal . I did plan on changing just the rotten platform however a good friend sent me a complete one he had cut out from a scrapped Imp. Seemed rude not to fit the whole thing . Took 3 days with my head in a wheel arch either getting showered with grind or weld . Still its alive again . Cut the inner arch out for a look see Rotten platform removed Its a bit shot Platform out All gone Welded in then covered in Hydrate 80 Seam sealed Buried in stone chip and Done Drivers sides not looking great either
