Kevin the cat was wondering exactly this. He was having troubles placing them. Thanks for the advise.. I'll relay it on to him so he can fit them once he's finished getting all the contact adhesive off his paws. Oh by the way.. Peter. He's in his summer coat. You'll laugh at his winter coat....

Tickovers been a bit erratic lately and ive traced it to worn carb spindles . Removed and partially stripped the twin SUs this morning to see just how worn they are and wether or not the body needs line boring and bushing . TBH I don't think they will going by what the Singers was like and that not needing it but I wont know for certain until the new spindles arrive . Still for 12 years use its actually all rather good Carbless and going nowhere 12 years worth of gunge Time for a clean up rear carb rear carb - tother end front carb , this is the worst one front carb - tother end

Carb overhaul done , running so much better now , probably a bit of fine tuning required once they settle in but well worth the effort Clean with newness bits

A bit of fine tuning and 100 odd miles later the rebuilt carbs are working perfectly - so much smoother and nicer to drive . Mixture seems bang on now with both adjusters out the same amount for a change ( 9 flats )

Just a small update on this. Well its actually getting lots of use at present and has almost been a daily for a while . Its running well although tother day i left the side lights on for a mere 2 hours which resulted in a batt flattery . Had it tested and its dying of old age . Dated 2014 and down from 320A to 180A so next to no reserve . Ive now splashed out on a newness battery so it should be OK now for a few years . Due a break checkover soon and a general look over ready for summer duties . Thanks for looking

This has been worked on a fair bit mainly to get the throttle response the same as the Singers ie. sharper and quicker as having got the Singers how i like it this seemed a tad slow even though it felt fine before i did the Singers - weird how something is fine until you make it even better  , I altered the Solex quadrant this set up uses and made it 6mm shorter at the ball end . This seemed the easiest way to do this although i could of altered the linkage bar length in just the same way .I also altered the return springs so the pedals softer - again just as the Singers is . Its now so much better . Its strange how just 6mm in length makes so much difference SU springs are really weak affairs - hence the need for three , use two and the pedal has no resistance whatsoever . As it is now As it was

Just a short update on this . Well a few weeks has passed since i did the throttle response and spring alteration and after a few hundred miles i can say it feels so much better in every respect , really light but also very responsive . Engines pulling superbly and the clutch and box also feel great . Only done one show this year in it thus far and that was last weekend at Shepton Mallet . Needs a polish and a wash but that can wait for a bit as ive house repairs to do first

It's like a trampoline in there with all those springs By all accounts they are really weak springs , just running two gives almost no feel . the third centre one is adjustable on various holes so i can adjust the feel if needed . PS , Kevin the cat is just stunning , hes lovely and your very lucky

Seeing as i was given the CO meter a few weeks back and tooned up the Singer with it with great success i thought id check this today . a bit rich at 5% on tickover so I lowered it a tad , its now set at 4% ( 4.4% on this meter ) , balance was spot on as was the plug colours . Advanced the timing a tad as well. Its all good 4.4% CO is actually 4% on this meter - this was close enough No 1 No.2 no.3 No.4 - always more deposits on this cylinder on both cars

Love a good experiment . Finally finished by second " go faster " DR3A Armature . I started this mid March then got Furlowed . Spec changed slightly from the first one but drastically from the original Lucas spec . Time to do just over 5 hours in total , top grade wire and insulation , double varnished and double cooked , comm run out isnt measurable 🙂 www.facebook.com/dave.lane.77715/videos/10223503762161852/?t=0
