I'm currently working out the spec for the Sprite's new engine, and when it comes to buying the required parts, I have no desire to pay a premium in order to have MG or Austin Healey on the receipt.
What good Mini specialists are there who would be able to supply the necessary bits? I know of Mini Spares, but I'm guessing that some potential parts (like 998 conrods for example) don't need to be new.
Any links / info would be much appreciated! Is there a good Mini specialist / parts place in Bristol? If so that would be ideal as that's where my brother lives (he's a mechanical engineer, so is building the engine for me).
Cheers!

if you want a build speak to Bill Richards, Pete Vickers or Raven Racing.
Stay away from Mini sp**d for their in house builds but new parts would be ok, but expect them to f*ck you about on postage, Minispares/sport are reliable though....
Let me know if you want contacts, Bill and Pete are friends of the family, so I know what they are like and Patrick Howe of Raven Racing is a friend of a friend.

When I was into Minis, I got all my bits from MiniSport... I used to love the drive up to Padiham to pick up loads of shiney bits

Best place for new Mini parts in Bristol is Moss at the bottom of the M32

If you need any parts that don't need to be new, give me a shout as I've still got 6 Mini engines in the garage........

IRooco - that's very kind of you! I'll let you know when I know - I'm not sure yet what the spec will be, as I haven't checked to see how much more (or not) my insurance company will charge me....

If you bore the block out +.060", that'll give you the same bore as the 998/1098 motor. this means that you can fit the 12G295 head (a goodie) and use either Cooper 998 or Metro 998 pistons. Combine that with a suitable cam and you should have a good little motor.

If you get hold of an A + 998cc from either a late Mini or Metro, and combine this with a 276 cam and a heavily skimmed (I've got the exact info at home) early 1300 Maestro head, you can get around 90bhp.......

A+ won't fit, mounting are all wrong. My mate Simon tried it out in his 1275 midget

Rumour has it though that the Maestro block can be used inline (ie rwd)...

If you need any parts that don't need to be new, give me a shout as I've still got 6 Mini engines in the garage........ Are any of them 998s? I'm going to have my 948 bored out to take 998 pistons, and I'm looking for a set of 998 rods as the existing 948 rods are apparently incompatible with the gudgeon pins in the 998 pistons. Cheers!
