Just about to move house, so been trying to sort out a new quote for the Amazon, as I'm currently a named (but principal) driver, not the policy holder. Still waiting to hear back from my current insurers though, who are saying that they will give me a 45% introdutory reduction / bonus thingy due to having been a named driver with them for years. Not expecting much, as it's already £700 or so, but could be ok, as the Lancaster online quote below was £100 cheaper at the new postcode than the old. Online, with Lancaster's 'Quick Quote' system for classic cars, I can get it for just £437. That's 7500 miles, parked on the street in London SW6, no ncd (not policy holder) but no claims or accidents, clean licence etc. So far, so good, and very happy. One snag, that's based on an Amazon that left the factory as a 2.0. For all mods declared (ie exchange recon 2.0 instead of 1.8, and sports exhaust), they want about £1500 WTF??? How does that work? The only differences (other than age) between my car and an original 2.0 estate is that mine is lacking a few interior bits (padded / safety stuff for US federal regs), has a hydraulic clutch rather than a cable operated one, and is only single circuit brakes rather than dual circuit (again for Federal regs - AFAIK, braking power unchanged, but then Amazon brakes are very good). I.e, there's b*gg*r all difference, especially from an insurance risk point of view. I would have been happy(ish) with £600 or £700, but £1.5 / £2K is an absolute joke. From a cost point of view, it would be cheaper to fit a 1.8 and a standard exhaust back in. I am not amused.....

have you tried adrian flux, and road sure, and others....?
for my silly v8 engine car ideas the quotes have been reasonable. standard insurance companies are a bit curse word and operate different to specialists such as flux. look for other companies in your magazines or ask in volvo forum etc, there are others i just cant think of em. hope that helps some

Unfortunately, most don't want to know, as it's my everyday car, and parked out in the street. I can get a quote for the Sprite at the same address (as my everyday car, 7500 miles etc) for less than £375, and the stupid thing is that it would be far more likely (and easy) to be stolen (the only locks are on the ignition and boot), vandalised, damaged by the pee poor parking of the chelsea tractor driving neighbours than the Amazon. It is also far more skittish to drive, and less visible to to other road users, yet it's so much cheaper to insure.

have you tried flux and co? See my plan when i first considered the 3 door V8 sierra; it was going replace my daily hack 1.8 sierra (totally standard), i sent off an online quote to flux last week, a rough figure was under 500 for medium risk area 7500 miles, I'm under 30, do have some NCB tho, mentioned sporty bumpers and cossie mech bits, but was quite happy. plan is second car again now but thats cos i'm thinkin of buying an house in a rough area and don't have 40k extra for a drive!

reanimation...
Is that your motor in your avatar? If so, it wouldn't happen to be stupid quick with a turbo and took part in the fastest 0-60 challenge?

Paul,
have you tried phoning Lancaster? My fasty was cheaper modified with Lancaster than it was when standard with Adrian Flux.
It also ended up being cheaper than the quick-quote on the standard model.
The woman I spoke to, whilst not being an obvious enthusiast at least seemed to have an idea of what I was going on about. Think she might've been called Janice.
I was well impressed by Lancaster, and have heard lots of praise for them in the past.

have you tried phoning Lancaster? Yes, it was them who wanted £1500 when I phoned them (to declare the changes) :-( Having had sensible prices online, I was expecting to pay perhaps £100 / £150 extra, not £1K more.

Wow cant believe you spotted it from the small pic unless you saw the bigger one on my site. Unfortunately it belongs to mick from wackey racers, and not mine , but was exactly what i was looking for, for my business cards, It is a real beast. Sorry to go a bit off topic paul, just keep trying specialised companies till you get it cheaper, or could consider if a cat 1 alarm or cat 2 immobiliser would pull down the price.

Just tried Adrian Flux - fully comp, parked on the street, mods declared etc, 7500 miles = £513!!
That's more like it! (Just need to check about Ensign, who are underwriting the policy.)
;D ;D

I use Flux, not too bad but I had to ring round to get their price down a bit. I pay £160 for a modded Mini which isn`t too bad Mind you, just paid £260 to insure a brand new New Beetle cabrio with NO ncb with Direct Line ! (Insured it as a second car with full ncb on the first - I was still shocked how cheap it was though. Insuring standard cars is just sooo easy !)
