Never heard of this one - is it connected with 'Classic Cars' or 'Classic Car Weekly'?

Classics Monthly - ex "Classics", ex "Retro Classics", ex "Retro" - the *original* retro cars mag. My old mag... How much are they paying per picture?

Why have they changed the name? Have they changed the mag?

Let's hope so.
The editorial content of "Classics" was frankly pap. I had the misfortune to read a copy whilst bored in the Norfolk Broads. It didn't help.
'Twas much better when it was "Retro" though. Proper Bo'!

impman, do you mean you used to run retro cars?
I'm getting paid to do the article, not for individual snaps. I'm doing it as a hobby at the mo then eventually I'd like to go full time.

I've got some pictures of a few cars from Retro Cars show (at Santa Pod) if you want to use some of those, I don't mind so long as you give me credit for them Have a look at AutoPoster. If you want any higher res versions then PM me and I'll try to email them over tonight...

impman, do you mean you used to run retro cars?Nope. I was editor of CLASSICS, which was originally called Retro (note: not Retro Cars, that came much later and was launched by A&S Publishing). CLASSICS was renamed ' Classics Monthly' recently - although someone ought to tell them that this is a bit of a misnomer, as they produce 13 issues a year. Nice try fellas... Classics turned to sh1t thanks to a change in the management, who wanted greater control over content (ie more dull stuff that they can sell ads on the back of) - I walked before it really went to pooh, but sadly some of the last mags with my name in are slightly embarassing due to their weakness. Its a p1ss poor state of affairs when the editor is not allowed to decide the editorial content of the mag he's putting his name to. Its even worse when they use his name even though he has left - four issues with my name, but no input from me. I had a look at the latest one in Smiths on Friday - I can't see how they are selling anything, frankly. Its absolutely shocking and compared to the competition, it looks cheap, nasty and, as someone else said, pap. Anyway good luck in your ventures with them - I've given up completely on writing, as there is only one mag I'd really want to write for these days and I don't think I could sustain on what they'd pay a freelance - and I don't want the aggro of being office based again. I'll stick to building guitars! ;D

.... and I'm the one who could have replaced impmann, but turned the job down for the reasons he's explained - and I think he's understated the problems he must have had then!

the ed called me to do a piece on track days and speed events, I do work for other mags (track and rcae car, race car engineering, enjoying mg and performance gti) so all is not lost! the thing is Fast Car Magazine are in the same house and although it doesn't appeal they do well, good design and content for the target audience. don't suppose you have any contacts that are after freelancers or even better, a job vacancy?

All done, thanks to those of you that sent me images. The article should appear in the next issue of Classics Monthly, hopefully they use all the images I sent... Look out for it at the end of September. Cheers, Tait
