Hello peeps... I'm currently with NUD for my insurance, at a fairly reasonable 550 quid a year with nonstandard alloys, and the renewel (end of Aug) is going to be ~300, which is not too bad given I'm a youngish driver and all. However, I've got another mota' waiting in the wings but NUD can't quote me on it, so I was wondering if you have any useful, good, classic insurers or normal insurers that will do under 21's on modified cars at sensible prices. I've got two years NCB and am 19, plus I live in a low threat postcode area so someone must be interested in having a go at me...

We're being fleeced for over £500, fully comp and living in heaven (super low crime rate, touch wood) for our '93 480 2.0ES. What a rip off, but I can't find it for cheaper?!
I can get insured on a brand new Subaru Impreza for £1100! What the Hull is going on?

C H R I S T poor young uns. at 32 I'm an old codger and can get most stuff for less than £300, and that includes heavily modded stuff too. for a quick online quote try here f*ck norwich union, these mof*ckers might quote you happynever been insured with them but it gives me a good benchmark to go at. eg 5.6 v8 merc sel just over £250 ;D also just had a quote for a kawasaki zxr750, £312 with no no claims, and i havnt passed my bike test yet! off to the test centre asap

Should have bought yourself a chevette, Hirst - I'm paying less than a third of that I like my car to go fweeeee and woooooo though. Insuring it for modifications didn't help either. ;D It's nowt over instalments though - I don't need a car to be honest (I live quite close to work and don't tend to go many places) so it's mainly a leisure thing for me. I've loved cars since I was a kid but I didn't even think about driving when I was first able to becuase I just knew what kind of car I'd be stuck driving and it would kill the experience for me. It just makes me so happy to go out for a drive in it on a nice day with the window down (and turbo whistling) that I forget about how much it costs. I can't wait to for insurance costs on good cars to be under £500, I'll just load up on all kinds of goodies. A car for each day of the week.

Adrian Flux were only company who'd quote my brother and me for modified cars in N.Irelend, but they were reasonably cheap. He (aged 20 at time) had a Mk2 Fiesta with 1.6CVH fitted, lowered, alloys, XR2 interior etc for under 500quid. I had my Toyota 1000 insured with them when I was 28 with 1.6 injected Corolla engine and gearbox, lowered, uprated brakes, bucket seats for 240quid. Only Privilage would insure me on the modified GTi-R cos it was an import and my renewal came back at £2100, up from £1600 when I was 32! Got a trade policy now...

it just depends on the model of car..... classic car status doesn't seem to have much to do with age. a Corrado is a classic but a Volvo of the same age isn't.
I had words with Adrian Flux and they were pretty much based around the "fook off you robbing bisturds" sentiment when i realised they wanted £250 to insure a car on a 0 mile policy (i.e. laid up) and were then going to charge me more for modifications, but could only cover them with an engineers report!

Flux covered both the Toyota and Fiesta, when they asked who had done the transplants, I told them it was all done by myself and they were happy enough. One thing that did annoy me was that after quoting for the Toyota with an engine putting out well over twice the original horsepower, they then charged extra when I told them I'd only had space to fit a "performance" foam airfilter rather than the standard airbox.
