Hi, I took my shell out today and taken off the spit! Took me long time to tidy up and so on but it is now on axle stands again. When I tried to fit subframe, there was something in the way! It was my EPS ready steering ruck. I have rotatedmore than 45 degrees so it is more in the wau than before. I have to mod my suframe before I fit it to my shell for wheel arches but I have to do it sometime in the future! Cheers Atchi

Hi, I have worked on my Mini for a while today. I have started on steel wheel arches. I took photos of passenger side and I have finished both sides! First, I did wing part of arch. Then I did A-panel. Steel arches are first spot welded then seam welded. Wing fit wasn't very well so I have to cut part of wing where it touches skuttle panel but I'm happy with what it looks like. This is from front. Cheers Atchi

Thanks Alistair, like I said some where. I wanted to do a Sprint but I didn't know how and my handy tool got better of me! Also, I wanted to do reliable 100+bhp with 5 speed gearbox. I end up this way. Also, me been tight Japanese. I was going to do everything myself to test my ability!
I'm starting to think I wish I didn't!
I'm hoping to finsih for next summer so watch this space!

Hi, I have started to weld wing strengthener. My friend Jimmy gave me stainless steel strips so I have used them. As I posted before that my wing weren't very good fit. So I cut them up a lot to fit where I wanted to be. By doinh this, wings lost ridgidity. So I have welded in strip and I used 2 welded nuts to fasten to inner wing also. This is a stainless steel strip positioned for welding. This is welded up and extra material cut off. This is from inside of wing photo. It might be difficult to see but 2 nut is welded onto a steel strip. I will be doing same to the other side. Once I finish this, I will be fitting my engine and gearbox to start on a gearshift. Then finalising my pedal box as I'm not very happy how it is at the moment! Cheers Atchi

This is a spectacular project, my hat is well off! You don't seem to be getting much encouragement though. Maybe when you get to the stickers and wheel rims bit folk will start to pay more attention

Thanks guys, I do my best to keep at it!
I got so many ideas in my head! I got a spare engine which will take either Turbo or Super charger and it will be 250BHP @ wheels from 1300cc! I also thinking about dry sump system for this charged engine.
I think I will be trying to finiah as NA first and it will be 140 Bhp with 650kg so it will be just over 210 BHp/tonne. I know it will be 0-60 in less than 6.5 secs!
I will get there one day!
Cheers Atchi

Hi, Thank you for your encouragement xbo11ox. As long as people like you looking at it, I'm happy. This is my Ultimate Mini project after all. Anyway, I have worked on my Driver side today. This is how I welded in first. Then grind it smooth. And passenger side also. Then I welded in a mesh in the bonnet. I will be fitting 2x Dzus fitting for each wing. Then I shall start everything else! Cheers Atchi

Hi, I was going to work on my gearshift but I needed to work on down pipe before it. So I needed to fit my engine in for me to work out a down pipe. So here goes engine fitment again. I started to weld a flange and pipes. I will be working on full exhaust system and while it is in situ, I will be making my gearshift. I'm not sure which I will be using. It will be either shortened Swift or modified Mini. Cheers Atchi

This is my ultimate toy and I didn't think I could managed to do most of it but... heyho. You don't know until you try.

I once looked at a starlet P7 with a Swift GTi engine in it, and they used a honda shift stick + rods, felt much better then the crappy swift system in my opinion. very nice project btw, i always read your updates, i like this, a lot!

Hi Doc,
My bro in-law used to nav for a Starlet rally car in N.Ireland. I know about Civic quick shift. Imade one for my Mk1 Gti I had. Only problem is that quick shift will make my synchro work harder and Gti has gearbox made of chocorate... so I shall see.
I can make my Gti one to be quick shift by grind out weld on a ball and move it up by 10mm.
I changed my angle of the engine so it will be difficult to check. Hense my engine is in for quick check.
I will be in my garage this afternoon for more fun!
Cheers Atchi

Hi, Well, nothing wrong with Gloucester, just moved closer to one set of parents. I managed to spend 1.5hrs in my garage yesterday! So I used my time wisely and finished my down pipe. Here it is. Now I can start to work on my gear shifts, soon. Cheers Atchi

Hi, I had a half day today so I worked on my car until I picked girls up from the school. I tried to finish off exhaust system so that I can start work on my gear shifts. First of all, I built a middle pipe to complete the system. When I measured, it is 100mm too short. This is because cut off from std Mini system and making a bespoke down pipe. I need to shorten flange bit by 1" to make sure flange is not hitting the floor. Then I need to add 6" between flange and middle pipe. This is for gearshift clearance and tail pipes are not long enough. A you can see it is too short! I think I will get CO poisoning with this setup! Good job I bought a spare pipe for this purpose! Cheers Atchi

Hi, I managed to fit modified system back on tonight. I would like to know what people think about my twin tail pipes. Should I keep it so that it is up swept or down? Could you let me know? Cheers Atchi
