But I was so busy that I never got round to posting anything about it, I was saving the photos for a rainy day, the sun is out but I think that the forum needs them
I drove my white daihatsu the entire way about 1700 miles in total!
At the port 2am!
Bus heading to the continent -
on the ferry
we drove there in one hit, about 800 miles in total, I did work on thurday from 6am till 5pm, then packed, drove to the port with Michelle for 2am, then drove untill 8pm the next day, wiped!
stopped in holland on our way through
the camp site was a small place about 20 mins drive from winterstein, the longest hill climb in germany.
The event was a three day affair, friday consisted of a 1/4 mile sprint on the road into the village, this was in the evening but we didnt know and arrived about 6 hours early. I was just bimbling along then I realised that I was crossing under a large START banner, so i pinned it toward the finish! All of the timing equipment was set up and working, so I even got my finishing speed!
In the village there was a gazebo with some chaps who looked like marshalls, so I went up and tried my limited german to no avail, so then I did my best berg cup polo impression with 12K rpm noises sequential gearbox hand movements and writhing steering wheel hands ;D this worked a treat and we were pointed up into the village.
Turned out we were one of the first to arrive, then up ahead, whats this?
It looks green?
AWSOME!
The owner was really nice and let me drool all over it
The activities wernt happening for ages, so we went back got some food then returned about an hour before it was all going to kick off. We arrive in the same manner as before, down the 1/4 mile, but were turned away from the village this time as it was packed with race cars, lining the streets. we parked, walked back and got a good spot near the start line -
this thing was fast with a capital F, quicker than the delta integrale even!
Once the event was over, we walked back to the car, only problem was that the 1/4 road was closed. Only one way out. Up the hillclimb! After a little negotiation between us and the marshalls I promised to go slow and they let me through! SUCKERS!
The road was amazing, 5km of smooth tarmac, hairpins and general hoolganism
The next day was ace, we arrived pretty much first, parked for free right next to the finish line and started to walk into the woods. The walk was about 3 - 4km, we were just in some german woods, no one around, just us, then the noise of a highly tuned 1300 16v golf echoes around us, another 200m and then there was our seat for the day.
The cars were amazing, it was quiet, no one in the way, the sun was out and we were in some amazing country side. Really dosent get much better. Some cars from the practice day -
The second day was much the same, we decided to stay in the same place as it really was a great spot.
And the course car -
We split the drive home over 2 days, camping in a field in the middle of no where, right next to a massive bee hive! Monster! We also visited the top of a mountain too ;D
The drive back was long and hard, but we got there in the end, lots of rain and lots of rain-X
All in all an amazing trip, well worth it.
Parting shot -
1700 miles of road jizz, making cool patterns
Hope this cheers you lot up a bit
