Again courtesy of our watchful friends at Bringatrailer comes this eBay spot of a smart early Jag XK with a Chevy V8 conversion. Apparently this is from a Corvette - but if you see enough Chevy conversions you'll quickly realise that ALL small block Chevy's came out of Corvettes. Its also sporting some other vaguely period upgrades including XK150 disc brakes which would seem to make it more usable. She's a honey. 4 hours to go and only $20K. Either its in for some fast late bidding or the Jag buyers of the world with money to spend aren't as taken by this conversion as I am. cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200295620215&viewitem=

Do you think this kind of conversion still takes place Akku or do these all date from say the 60's/70's when the cars originality value was lower. Oh, and it must be a vette motor it says so on the rocker covers Brand new ignition and carb on it though.

BaT say its a Corvette lump, maybe it really is.
I think this sort of thing was common when they were low value older sports cars sort of like if you had a XJS now and the V12 let go. Fix that or whach a small block in it? V8 is cheaper and has similar power...
Its the V8 Ferarris which really tickle me.
But this "works" for me.
I also see a lot of smog era 305 Chevys and 302 Fords shoved into Jags, Volvos and BMWs out there as a cheap fix when the original motor died.

I'd roll it. I see nothing wrong there, as long as it still going (and clearly still cared for) then it's all good in my book.
Plus,i reckon it'd take some of the fear out fo driving it and enjoying it properly, you know, taking it on long summer trips down the West Coast, wind in your hair, the old radio attempting to play some sort of 60's summer tune, a suitably attractive woman in the passenger seat etc....
Sorry, went off track a little bit there....

It used to be the done thing in the States to fit SBCs into E-types way back then, until the values of Jags rocketed - then they were all converted back. I reckon that XK120 is a thin of beauty and the V8 adds a touch oh character and history.
Peronally I'd have fitted a Ford V8 though!

what, eBay?
;D
But seriously, they have "featured" a couple of W115s on there, and I did link at least one back here as it was a gawky looking US spec one which ain't so often seen in these parts.

I like it. I wouldn't take one now and replace the XK lump with a V8, but one that's already done - I'd certainly like to try it!

MMMmnnnnnn normally I like engine conversions but this one annoys me slightly. I really don't think the brash V8 noise would suit a curvy svelte car

I guess Jag engines are expensive over there so when one goes pop they replace them with whats available locally. Just like someone sticking a ford V6 into a yank over here.
If I bought it id be tempted to keep it as it is....

I don't care about "purity" or any of that bother, if I have a car and its not fast enough or its broken, i'll fit the most powerfull engine I can afford and don't care where it comes from. Probably a good job i don't have any money or i'd be rolling around in things like a 1930's Mercedes 500 whith a turbo LS7 in it.
