Yesterday, having made a complete mess of resealing the windscreen on my Amazon, I used some meths (the sealant container said use white spirit but I couldn't find any) to clean off the (huge amounts of) excess sealant. However, later on I noticed that those areas of paint were much shinier - maybe there is still hope for the paintwork on my car! What I'd like some advice on though is what's the best way to restore very dirty and faded paint? I'm not expecting miracles, just to make it more presentable. This is prompted by some old photos that I found of the car, and also that I know my girlfriend will like it more / dislike it less if it's shinier I'm guessing that I'll need some form of traffic film remover as well, as the paint really is filthy. However, is it worth waxing it, and will this actually make a difference on knackered paint? I'm not keen on the idea of T Cut. as the paint is already through to the primer in a few places, and in one area, bare metal (rat look ;D). Cheers!

I love the paint on your Amazon! I know nothing about polishing etc., as I always tend to run snotters .

I think your only option is a good clean, a light T-cut and loads of wax. Either that or a respray. Or maybe I'm wrong...

I thnk T-cut too, or perhaps some cheapo car wax like 'Triplewax', thats very slightly abrasive, not half as harsh as T-cut.

Don't worry BenzBoy, the patina will still remain, as a respray is not going to happen for a very long time (will have to wait until after the new rear wheel arches have been welded in, and the doors & upper tailgate repaired / replaced & the new front wings fitted).
I'm a bit wary of T Cut because of how thin the paint is in places, but if normal polish and wax doesn't work, then I'll give it a go.

T-cut can be watered down to make it less abrasive. There used to be a spray solvent that 'melted' the top layer of paint for using when you touched up. Not too sure about using it on a whole car or even if it is still available or what it was called (I'm full of useless information)

Turtlewax have Safecut, not as abrasive as T-cut but not as good either

go to halfords and buy colour fast T-cut, in your case blue polish. I hope paul H won't mind me saying - Thanks for that! I was gonna buy green!

I'd recommend Farecla rubbing compound. It works just the same as T-cut but is avialble in 10 different grades, G0 - G10, (G10 is the finest). Have a look here: www.fareclausa.com/rubbing.htmThere are plenty of places that sell it.

My girlfriend and I spent the weekend polishing the Amazon - the paint still looks dire close up, but it's now clean, and from a distance, looks so much shinier, especially the bonnet and roof - I'll save T Cutting it for another time!
However, some of the swirl marks (In used one of those colour matched polish / waxes) seem to be discolouring the paint in places, so it's a bit blotchy / cloudy. Any ideas how to get rid of this?
