Anyone know of a place where you can find out weights of engines. Just considering possibilities for either my kit car or one of my escorts. I know the pinto has always been regarded as being a pretty heavy engine (around 100kg bare) and a rover V8 is around the same weight. I had considered a zetec but just found out that the zetec is actually heavier weighing in at 111kg. The duratec i-4 is 95kg (but just found out that doesnt use a standard ford bellhousing its a mazda)
The ones I know are
vauxhall 1256 74kg K-series 75kg pinto 100kg zetec 111kg duratec 95kg
if anyone knows the weights of any other 4 cylinders I would appereciate it.

Bmw m10 2.0 is something like 83kg. i thought a K series was 85kg? (just going what ive got from raceline)
(funny you should be asking because ive been trying to find out the same for suitable engine conversions)

I’m horrified! Apparently my lovely all-alloy Honda 24v V6 weighs 490lbs, more than a horrible all-iron Ford 3.0 V6! I think I’ll choose to ignore that.
Saying that, I bet 488 of those lbs are tubes and valves for the horribly over complicated engine management system and beer-barrel-sized inlet manifold

I dread to think what the engine in my Amazon weighs.... however, the Sprite engine can just about be lifted by one person, but it's not easy.

Hahaha!
My old car only weighed 942lbs!
Reckon that the 4age toyota unit is one of the lighter options.

I've just been on www.imps4ever.info and it lists the following for an Imp engine, it has weights of individual components too: The engine incl. fittings - 75kg (sounds heavy but that's complete with all accessories, cooling system etc.) Transaxle with oil - 30kg Block - 14kg Head - 7kg Crankshaft - 10kg Flywheel - 7kg (That's the standard one, you can get lighter ones.) Water Pump Assembly - 10kg Exhaust Manifold - 3kg (again, I think that's a standard engine's, I'm not sure about the sport manifold or any aftermarket ones.) Starter Motor - 6kg Interestingly enough the site also lists a weight for a turbocharger. (He says 4kg.) There are a few forced induction Imps out there, (BlownImp's blown Imp springs to mind! ;D) but they never had a turbo as standard, I wonder what kind of turbo he's weighing?

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.
