just brought me a new Motor problem is it has a shot engine so it needs a new one. I was thinking of sticking a newish v8 in it, I also have an old ford 289 v8 so may end up putting that in there. was looking for some help though with the automatic box. does anyone know anything about the gearbox this car uses or what gearboxes will fit easily and what engines I can use to match. the main thing I really wanted was fuel injection so hopefully I can stick something half modern in there. what does everyone think?

Why not put a 24v staright six in out of an XJ 40? then you'll get a decent modern autobox as well and the whole lot will cost pennies.

i do like that broadspeed car, spotted on the web yesterday. I'm going q car though. going to fix the rust and paint it black but keep it standard looking, maybe mess with the grill on the front then make it as fast as possible. maybe the wheels of an xjrs. my old man had a set which looked great i do want the reliability of a new car though which is why I'm going modern ish with fuel injection. will only do it once so may as well go the whole hog and do it properly. i was thinking ford modular v8 (apparently ones off the last mustangs knock out about 320hp for a grandish) and an auto box from an xjs as apparently they are quite good (any one know how to make these will fit together lol) if not then a jag v8 out of an xj6 and keep the box. it has to have the v8 roar. don't know how many people watch chop shop but when they started that rover v8 on monday... has to be v8

Great motor!!!!! Usually they use the BW-65 auto box, which with the bellhousing for the Range Rover V8 just pops in a nice Rover V8 lump, for instance the 4.0 Litre lump. When tuned ok, this puts out about 250 Bhp, just about enough, as the normally aspirated straight six that is in puts out 265 Bhp...... So, to get the car quicker than stock u have to do some fairly decent modding all around. If u could stick with the straight six though, it's fairly easy to gain a few extra Bhp's, just by tuning the carburettor setup, and off course the exhaust system. Also, this block is standard a fairly low compression block, so BLOW IT Anyway, nice motor, good to see these old Jag Coupe's still on the road. Chris

Petrol? Pah!! You should be sticking a range rover TDV8 in there! It gives 25+ mpg in a range rover and I'd imagine that an XJC weighs less, so more mpg and more zoooooom too. It still sounds like a V8 too......

think you boys may be right. looking at all the options i have and for 2 grandish i can buy an xjr with a supercharged v8, new box and lsd what else could i possible need. I went and had a look at it yesterday and it seems pretty solid. needs a new valance at the back and the doors are scruffy on the bottom. looked like a bad reskin or lots of filler... was dark when i got there, bladdy traffic and only had a little torch. I'm getting the car tomorrow so will put some pics up. all i gotta do first is finish my cortina.... work is starting in earnest tomorrow. finally got all the bits i need for the job. give it a month or so and i reckon i'll have broke the back of it. more pics of that as well soon. retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=36402
