Please don't chop the roof, Jag got the proportions so right on these to start with, and look at how curved the roof is, youd have a right job on getting it right!
Car looks gorgeous and I look forward to following the progress!

Nice project To be perfectly honest, I don't think the Jag is any rustier than you could realistically expect it to be.

It's going to look great in white. White is the new black then in a couple of years black with be the new white. Never the less it's going to be great. Personaly I'd get the original XJC seats restored as the less modern Jag stuff on display the more of a sleeper it'll be.

might not be white anymore..... i hate choosing car colours lol. dunno whether to bother saying anymore lol. latest one is a really dark metallic grey colour. think this one is a keeper. either white or this colour. my bro has an audi the same colour and i think it'd fit pretty nice. this or white and I'm gonna try and stick to it. thanks for all the nice comments guys. one of the friendliest forums on the net.

I've though about registering to say this is awesome for a few cars, but this is the one that finally made me register just to praise how awesome i think it will be once done. Keep at it! It'll be brilliant.

Did you see wheeler dealers last night? They did their bentley a really nice shade of gunmetal grey. Could look nice in that colour. It's also nearly the same colour as my alfa

I think if you sprayed it that M3 white and kept the XJR wheels but powdercoated them dark grey or black it would look pretty menacing. Loving this project though, one of my most anticipated for 09!

Keep the colour as is, nice set of ARE(have to show the brembos off don't ya?) immaculately polished with the all modern underpinnings - truly space, grace and pace as the advert used to say!!! ;D

My total admiration Sir, just looked at the pictures where you have stripped the inside, you really have your hands full, and as the Coupe is my favorite Jag, I look forward to seeing more pictures, good luck and I'm sure you'll have fun. ;D Andy.

Hi,
Think it might be my rusty Coupe you mentioned seeing on PPC's forum. Any new updates on this car? I'm interested to see how it's going.
Regards
Ric

Does the XJR use the same suspension set up as the old XJ40 with an "A" frame underneath? If so please look at this guys work for how to use the best bits of both: jaguar.fiboy.com/XJ12C.htmWhen I enquired about the Powr Lok limited slip differentials on Jaguar's I was told that they are good for 700bHp. I don't think the Coupe's have them as standard, mine has a 3.31 non LSD. I know the brakes off an XJ40 or later (so possibly XJR too) complete with driveshafts, hubs and later will fit onto the old diff and lower arms, but they need a spacer where the old inboard brake discs went. I know the balljoints are shared between the old XJ and the XJ40, so it's possible the uprights may be a straight swap allowing you to put the XJR's straight onto the wishbones of the old set up. The suspension itself on the old XJ's is hard to beat... when I have been naughty I have done very high speeds over speed bumps potholes and the odd kerb in my series 3, and you hear the bump rather than feel it. The only place they are really a bit annoying is the roll in corners, and the tendancy to understeer. Fortunately, you can pinch the rear antiroll bar off an XJS 3.6 sports which solves this! Regards Ric

i've gotta get the xjr up on the ramp and measure everything up. i was going to leave the old one on but if i the xjr one fits anywhere near close i may go for that back end. it'll be easier having outboard rear discs and i imagine the car will be a bit more stable with that on. its going to be a while before i get to to it though as I'm doing all the panel work first. and there's one hell of a lot of that i went and brought the restoration book today and mine really really could be a lot worse. its had new sills on it at somepoint. and as long as the repairs look good when i get the paint off and underseal off i'll leave them alone. floors should be easy enough... maybe. it'll be after the new year before i'll get any real progress done. I'm currently swapping the engine out of my 147 so thats taking up the bit of spare of spare time i've got.

Cracking project this, and good call for doing something a little different . I would personally have gone for the AJ6 engine considering the engine loom is independent of other things in the XJ40 and XJS, in addition to the fact that the prototypes were meant to be the best XJ6s around with around the most solid engine Jag built. But I admit that I am a sucker for a V8 sound . This should be amazing when finished anyway .

This is a BIG project - major respect for even contemplating it!
Re. LSD's for XJ's, I am pretty sure they were standard fit in the XJS, Series II Vanden Plas badged models & S3 V12's & optional in everything else. The Sailsbury type diff was fitted up to '85 and comes in 3 different ratios - I think they were roughly 2.8, 3.0 & 3.3 - so plenty of options... Jag LSD's are noticably heavier than the standard unit & they should have a tag on the casing stamped "PL" (power lock).
I'd leave it with the original type of suspension unless it proves to drive badly when completed - The SIII 6.0 V12 had 300bhp & the TWR V12 XJS about 330, so a jump up to 370 is not massive or beyond the mechanical capabilities of the running gear if reburbished properly?

If you get one off a later XJS they also have a finned diff cover to cope with the heat too.
Ratios, as the man above mentioned are 2.88, 3.07, 3.31 and there are 3.54's available. As for usage you're pretty much spot on. Anyway, you asked me a while back whether I had some front wings... well I have now, if you're interested, as my series 2 saloon is getting scrapped. The wings aren't far off mint.
