My other half has a Motobility Jeep Cherokee. Its just done 9000 miles and today it while driving it into town a light came on to tell us the gearbox was having problems. The Jeep has now gone to the dealer.
Imps are not that bad after all ;D

I did 205.9 miles in my car to goodwood and back, 8 hours in heavy traffic. Passed so many conked out Euroboxes.
5000 miles and 2 years, never skipped a beat so far! Touch wood!

I'm not the only one with trouble with motability motors then. I sometimes make use of a motability Poxhaul Zafira 1.6, becuase of a disability consisting of a bad ankle and knee that are a combination of injuries I got years ago and a rare blood disorder that makes matters worse, although I rarely drive the Zafira because if I'm too ill to be driving the Imp then normally I'm too ill to be driving anything at all so I just get a lift anywhere I need to go. Anyway, the Zafira is the single most unreliable car I've ever had to put up with, my Imp's like a Volvo in comparison. It's only two years old, and already it's on it's third clutch, it's had it's ECU investigated and tinkered with twice, and needs it again, the first time to do with serious underperformance and dire fuel economy, the second time because the engine was cutting randomly and having to be restarted, which is not good fun in the middle of the motorway when the car decides to stop! Also the doors don't shut properly half the time, and the interior noise even when the doors do shut is unbelieveable. In short, it's a bloody lemon. If I had actually bought the thing I'd have burnt it and claimed on the insurance by now. Now I've never had such an unreliable Imp.

I certainly don't. Dad & step mum's Volvo 850 threw a rod at 90k with no warning other than a nasty noise seconds before a huge bang - dad had just enough time to depress the clutch, & a rear tyre was punctured by the shrapnel. Stepmum's comment was "The old Volvo* would never have done that." ;D ;D *The Amazon which I now have, and which she insisted was replaced by the 850 as she had just become self employed and wanted a smarter car. I wasn't complaining Then there was the new J reg 945 SE Turbo.... the mechanic at the dealer thought mum was being stupid when she took the car back, saying she couldn't change gear - a new gearbox was fitted under warranty!!! However, after that, it was fine and did 40k in 18 months Admittedly, the Amazon has had a few problems (but so far it has always been able to get me home but nothing as major as that 850, which I consider to be a POS. The Amazon even leaves it behind on motorway hills ;D

My mums other half was moaning about an oil patch on the driveway, saying that I should get my girlfriends mini fixed or scrapped. Only problem is that we never park her car on the driveway, only car that gets parked there is his Mazda 2 ;D

my mate's clio182 - done about 4000 miles i think - arrived at work last week with the engine warning light on. tried to make it home again and it just floods the engine whilst driving, and splutters to a halt. AA come out with the regulation laptop (who needs spanners these days) and it's the oxygen sensor and heater. can't get booked in for two weeks so he's stuck with warming the engine for 5 minutes before going anywhere

So he has to give it a chance to warm up first? Err, shouldn't you do that anyway? Oil preassure/temeperature and all

So he has to give it a chance to warm up first? Err, shouldn't you do that anyway? Oil preassure/temeperature and all was that in reply to my post? he literally has to turn the engine on then go back in the house (luckily it's a nice safe area) and wait for the temp gauge to show 'normal' - any attempt to drive it before this point and it splutters to death. i give any car an easy time until the temperature and oil pressure are normal but at least they're drivable till this point!

Yeah, it was. Any car should be given time to warm up. All these modern cars with fuel injection and gizmoz still suffer from engine wear, most of which happens from the time the start until the time they've warmed up. Even with all these modern synthetic oils and stuff, it still happens

That'd be a bloody laugh! I'd be less annoyed if it was capbable of burnouts, remember that it's a heavy front wheel drive with as much power and torque as a food mixer!

Our Zafira was really reliable and wasent a bad car at all. It was the 1.8 and it handled pretty well for a van ;D

;D ;D Besides, if I need an car to obliterate the local neds (although I don't normally waste my time and tyres with burnout competitons, the backroads are perfect for races! ) there's always the Volvo 960. Nothing gives the local neds the shock of a lifetime up the backroads like a hairy commie, looking like a cross between Che Guevara and Robert Smith, driving a diplomatic limousine with a three litre straight six, rear wheel drive, more than 200 horses, and Rage Against the Machine on the stereo with the volume right up! ;D ;D ;D ;D Of course, unlike the coppers, I'm very safety minded, I don't drive fast in built up areas, these backroads are generally have completely empty stretches for a good few miles at a time, and the coppers don't generally know about their use (which is good, because the last thing I need when I'm trying for over 150mph is the local coppers doing the same thing to familiarise themselves with the motors!! )
