Cars.... I've been having a countup (oops) of the cars I own, particularly the ones on my "yup, I'll keep that one" list. I managed to count seven, making one for each day of the week, and didn't feel too bad about that until Autofive pointed out that I'd missed one List is Cortinas.. one mk2, one mk3 Capris, one mk1, one mk2 Granada, Mk1 Sierra, XR4i Chevanne Hotrod. Spose thats still seven, If I cheat and call the chevanne a "work vehicle" like the recovery truck Way I look at it is, they are a safer investment at the moment than money in the bank, and you cant go for a drive in an ISA. Also, seeing as there is only one of me, only one of them is actually being driven at any time, so thats the enviroment argument nobbled too. Thoughts, anyone?.

the environment is protected by all my broken cars. If I am hoarding them then nobody else is driving them, keeoing them off the road! LOL.
I always thought three was the magic number.
One sensible/ish daily driver One weekender - "finished" (be that a show car, drag car, circuit racer, driftu weapon etc.) One project car.
Makes sense.
Until you need another car to be the tow car for your racer, a van or estate to collect parts for the project, a "parts car" which was "too nice to break" a cheapie or freebo off a neighbour you couldn't turn down... etc.
The more cars you own the less chance of any of them ever being back on the road.

Hmmm I have four... doesn't sound too bad but only 1 is road legal & It's not really suitable for the commute to work so I get the bus I share a house with a mate & my brother, it has a garage* & a 4 car drive so I'm bloody lucky! Grey Anglia Estate flipfront - All road legal Yellow Anglia Estate - At my Dads waiting for gearbox (Still) Mk3 Cortina - In my Garage waiting for some major work (the keeper ) '99 Hyundai Lantra - was given it for ÂŁ0, just waiting to have the spare cash to tax, MOT & Insure it Maybe I should get rid of a few *In order to keep my car in the garage I live in the worlds tiniest bedroom which makes my missus hate my cars even more ;D

ah, but thats cheating... god knows what number I'd come up with if I counted cars I've taken to bits and stashed around the yard, lol.... All the ones on my list are either currently roadworthy, or on the road to repair. (I also didn't count the snotter fleet of still taxed and tested but bought for scrap cars like the Audi 100 estate, OR my wife's healey, my daughter's golf......) edit... oops, forgot another sierra but that one is missing bits and isn't getting fixed

S3 Daily, mk2 GTI weekend car which is MoTd but isn't taxed or insured, mk2 GTD which is almost finished and is getting swapped, then my series III lightweight, but that's not getting counted because I sort of live on a farm. So I make that two.

I used to avearge 9ish at once, but came to the conclusion nothing ever happened to most of em, so when my mate (owns a farm) got a new girlfriend a few years back who didnt approve of so many cars stashed on the farm it was a good excuse to strat thinning the crowd.

7, thats too many and my current count. Thats plus 1 moped, and about 6 push bikes ;D looking at a stock check next year and maybe some spring sales! main priority now is keeping em happy for the winter ahead. My main project with most money in has progressed this year but having missed retro gathering deadline, its relaxed again. Got the 'family' daily operating nicely again, very happy with that and next is my own daily utility vehicle to get MOT'd and on we go. I think generally speaking more than 3 is too many but it isn't hurting too much things are still progressing slowly.

Wife's Volvo and my recently purchased Alfa 156. No projects, nothing retro at all (though the 156 has chrome door handles and the dash is alledgedly reminiscent of earlier Alfas) and no plans to buy any either at the moment. For me, running two moderns, keeping the house going, being cruel to my kids and telling my wife she can't have stuff occupies all my spare time and money.
I still have a hankering for a MKII Golf GTi but unless a free one turns up......

I think there's a real danger of spreading yourself too thin and ending up with lots of cars swallowing money and no real progress gets made. One relaible daily driver one project and one to enjoy as said above however there's always that car that doesn't come up very often, a project in waiting if you like.

Hmmm, I'm rebuilding numbers. At the most I have had 8, but the wife didn't like that.
We've just moved into a new house which has a long five car driveway and a garage. At the moment we only have SWMBO's Saab 900 and my 280E Merc, but by nd of play on Sunday there'll be a Sapporo on the drive and an NSU Prinz in the garage.

I'm down to 3 at the minute, had 7 or 8 at my peak, but I had to get rid of a load to start building my garage. The 3 in my sig, Merc 420SEL - weekend/family car, Chevy pickup which is my off-road toy and the Merc 190e V8 project, which is my project. Don't really need a daily as both me and the Mrs commute to work by motorbikes (one each!) and we walk the kid to kids club/home from school. But I could do with perhaps *just one more*

Good question this, I think 3 is a good figure to have (see sig), but only because I have no more room.
Having said that, if a nice mustang came up, I would obviously have to alter the above statement to read "4 is a good figure to have" ;D
