Criminals are hard to catch. Pinning petty fines and rules onto law abiding citizens is far easier - makes the crime statistics look good for Bliar and his band of scum.

Surely your driveway is private property, whether there is a barrier or not It's still private property, but IIRC crossing a barrier of some kind is required for the legal definition of trespass (ie if it's open to the road, then it's not trespass). Or something like that......

No, there was no barrier unfortunately the actual 'driveway/parking' bay is Council land whereas Garage isn't (and they can't do anything about what you do in your garage). The way they built friends house was that you had a double garage but no driveway, Council then inturn kindly allocated an area infront of the houses for residents parking (2 bays per house) this was all decided back in the late 70's. however ... ...original council sold of responsibility of land to a 'private comporation' (in 2003) and it's these morons that are causing all the trouble. They have had to allow us to keep use of the parking bays (was in the contract of handing over by council) but they decided that "Bays are for parking only and not for repairs or other purposes (other purposes???)". Friend has since be told by nice lady (when he politely rang up to complain) that "If you need anything doing to your car/cars then you will just have to take them to a garage like everbody else does" ...!!! ...are they in the real world!
Plus "They don't want people working on cars outside there house as they (this new corporation) consider it lowers the tone of the area" !!!
...once again ARE THEY IN THE REAL WORLD!!!

You'd be surprised. I've heard stories of councils getting involved in what people are doing in their garages. I seem to remember there being a story on miniclassic ages ago about someone who was having all kinds of problems with repairing his own car in his own garage!!

Just get a petrol powered cement mixer, fill it with rocks and leave it running in your garage. Nice and noisy for the little curse word, and he can't shop you for working on your car
