We had one, very similar to that colour, never forget (I was only a young gun at the time) when it broke down in the Isle of Wight, over heated, had to be recovered back home, nightmare! About 2 years ago, at a garage I worked at we had one in, a 2.8, (the front splitter had '2.8' on it ) anyway I used to have fun with that in the wet. So easy to hang the back out, don't think the customer appreciated it though.

Nice car,
Although everyone raves on about MK1 Granny (Sweeney etc.) MK2 Granny is deemed to be the best built version (even better than MK3).

I used to work with a guy who was mad about MK2 Grannies, he had 4 of them. His daily driver was a 2.3 but he also had a 2.0, a 2.8 carb, and a 2.8 Ghia X. Lucky git

they're great. Just a shame they’ve got that god-awful pig-iron pushrod V6, one of the horriblest engines ever in my view.

I don’t like either of them! Although I don’t really know the difference between the two. As far as I am aware they are both:
1) all iron – boat anchors. 2) Overhead valves – probably difficult to justify that this is a big ‘negative’ but its 2nd rate old tech. 3) Siamesed ports – poor. 4) Standard outputs: 130 – 150bhp from 2.8 – 3.0 litres.
All they have going for them is that they are common, big, and cheap. They are thirsty, harsh, heavy, fragile (fibre timing gears?). Yuk!!

Now I may be wrong here but wasn't that just an upgraded 2.8 Cologne If I remember it went from 2.8 to 2.9 for the XR4i of the early 80's

The cosworth version had a 24-valve head though, for a little more urgency....

Correct, but at least you’ve got ally heads, overhead cams, 4 valves/cylinder and a decent power output there though.

Oops forgot about multivalve head,
Still, a late model V6 engined Capri 2.8 is a lovely car in my warped mind ;D

The fibre centred timing gears were on 1960's 3.0 Essex lumps, they stopped using them in the 70's, because they kept breaking

They did make an all alloy version of the Ford V6 (can't remember though if it was based on the Cologne or the Essex) back in the early '80s.....
Unfortunately it was a one off, & engineered for use in a light aircraft, so cannot be converted to use in a car. It's sitting in the corner of the workshop at an engineering firm that I did some work for a few years ago - the boss did all the necessary redesigning and CAA certification, whilst Ford did all the castings.
