'Beacham' Mk2 for the ULTIMATE WIN. All the toys & performance from a modern XJ wrapped in Mk2 clothes. OOF.
(Very deep pockets required though)

The benefit of being self employed! ;D I looked at a beacham Mk2 the other day - a mere £75k - rather out of my price range! I also don't like the modern wing mirrors and bonnet vents they insist on putting on them - rather spoils the illusion. Had a brief spin in a 3.8 with 5 speed Getrag box which was a lovely piece of kit and made all the right noises!

They're lovely cars - but why not consider the Daimler V8250? Much less money, lovelier noise (hmmm, V8) yet it's pretty much identical.
Or, I've been out in a Series 1 XJ6 today and it was lovely. Many thousands less than a good Mk2 as well.

From my car restoration days the main things i remember where bodywork being a pain to fix (they have the worlds smalllest panel gaps so theres no room for errors on the doors- check sills (inner and outer) and outriggers and door inners and outers. make sure the chrome is there as its expensive to replace Check that the interior is in good nick (having spent many hours with a razor blade remoing the laquer to restore all the wood) and the seats aint ripped (they can be re-connelised if they are faded or a little worn) and if at all possible make sure the engine and gearbox are in well serviced order as ther are a pain to remove if theres serious problems. theres problee plenty more but thats what i can recall-they are however fantastic cars Ive driven quite a few (get it on some adjustable spax) and cos there aint enough pics heres bare metal ground up build i did earlier (13 years earlier) scuse the picture of a picture i don't have a scanner-

These are Jag Mk1s - much rarer & supposedly a tad ill handling due to the narrower rear track.

Daimler is automatic only IIRC whereas the Jag is available maual or auto.
Also be aware that the Jaguar 240 and Jaguar 340 are exactly the same as a Mk2 Jag but with a few differences and seem to be worth a lot less than the "pukka" Mk2. Differences seem to be that the bumpers are thinner (and prettier IMO) and that the seats are usually trimmed in vinyl rather than leather. Why worry about that? You can X300 or modern S type leathers or something and have nice modern seats for you daily....

I rather like the girder bumpers on the earlier cars! I guess I'll just have to see what comes along - the prices seem to vary an amazing amount!!!

The Daimler did have a manual gearbox as an option for the final few years of production (sorry, not sure about the years). Rare though, so most are indeed autos.
