BMW e30.... M3 / iS / Sport models are all superb. The faster you go, the better it gets! Everything is just sooo right!
Mini's. Don't have to have masses of power.. 1 speed=flat out!
Pug 205's - even the budget ones like I had are extremely entertaining to drive and the GTi's are just hooligan.
Skoda Estelle.... no, really! ;D

No one has mentioned the Golf GTI as a drivers car... ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Mk2 is excellent, Mk1 is better - sure Darren will agree ;D

power and speed are always good be i don't think you need them to have a good drivers car, minis are ace fun and even something like the shuv or similar it becomes all about momentum so you really push the car and its involving. In this day and age of high insurance, angry police, speed cameras and roundabouts everywhere some times a little buzzy engine is better as you can thrash the nuts off it and feel like your pushing the car but your never really braking the law (ish) try doing that in you evo8!

Good point. I find the Mk1 Polo a suprisingly good drive, you feel like you're pushing the limits of grip at about 25mph on a dry roundabout! 50bhp and 135 tyres... ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

If you see a hill coming its a case of floor it before you get there to help get up the hill ;D

Indeed I would Stu! For me, a "drivers" car has to have: * Telepathic steering response * Instant throttle response * Nimble, agile handling * Noisy! Exhaust or induction roar (or both!) Doesn't matter too much about power/speed - my 850cc Mini was absolutely BRILLIANT to drive but incredibly slow. In my experience, they are still one of the greatest cars to drive. I've been out in our 1300 Mini all morning and although it's slow compared to my Golf, the ability to nip in and out of traffic more than makes up for it. That's why I love my Golf - small enough to be nimble and agile, sounds great, lovely steering feel and goes quick when you want it to ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

The 127/ integrale story is true, mind you it involved taking the 127 off the rev counter in 4th and local knowledge of the road and the fact the delta was worth 15 grand and the 127 15 quid ;D

I have always loved driver's cars and always tried to buy the best I could affors at any given time. My first real driver's car was my Fiat 128 3p's (I had two of them) this is a pic of my second one a 1979 128 3p SS. Had that for about 4 years - just perfect little poor mans Ferrari. Then I traded that for my Gti - the mk II was the best of all the VW GTi's and I really loved that. Skip a few cars ( not really drivers cars) and I bought my BMW 318iS coupe new in 1998. This was also a great drivers car. My latest is my Alfa GT - even though its the 1.9JTD it is a great car to drive ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v200/Alfasudcrazy/GT3.jpg)

I drove a new BMW 330i coupe - now that was great. Alright it's not in any way retro but I just felt really in touch with the controls. BMW always seem to get it right. Mini's (proper ones...) are such a laugh! I drove my mates around some country lanes in Somerset and it just felt bloody amazing! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

there are very few fwd cars i find rewarding to drive yes they can go pretty much where you point then but they just don't have feel of a rear wheel drive car the few that are the exception to the rule are the mk1 golf gti & the mini they are the only front wheel drive cars i've enjoyed driving sorry ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

Favourite handling of all front wheel drive cars I have driven is actually the MG maestro. They are really entertaining. Plenty of lift of oversteer not much understeer unless you plant the throttle on full lock in a tight bend. Good laugh ;D ;D

have been out playing in my mates Fabia, its just had new pirellis on it and its been tracked up and it actually goes where i want it to again ( including sideways ) anyone know how close these things are to golfs in handling? ( i aint never driven a golf) bearing in mind it is 1.4mpi (think it is 80bhp) in sleeper dark green and completley standard apart from the remote central locking, the mp3 player and speakers i fitted.
