An 18-year-old is the first to be convicted in the country for breaching an injunction stopping boy racers or cruisers meeting in Notts. Adam Barnfather was spotted driving his red Vauxhall Corsa in a convoy of about 16 other cars circling around Midworth Street in Mansfield city centre at about 8.15pm on October 17. Barnfather was then spotted speeding down Albert Street, where he did a wheel spin causing smoke to come from both his front and rear wheels. He was eventually stopped in a lay-by in Quaker Way, Mansfield. Barnfather, of Parkhall Road, Mansfield Woodhouse, admitted breaching an injunction served on him on July 21, which banned him from 'cruising' anywhere in Notts. Today he was sentenced to 28 days in custody, suspended for the rest of the injunction, which lasts until June 2009. Sentencing Barnfather, Judge Richard Inglis said: "Car cruising is an evil that everyone must try to bear down on and prevent, and if necessary, punish. "I think it is the case that now more than 100 people will be served with the injunction." Barnfather was also ordered to pay £250 in costs. Speaking after the case coun Glynn Gilfoyle, Notts Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said: "As this is the first case to be brought, it has sent a clear signal with the judge saying that this type of action is an evil and should not take place in Notts." reproduced wihout permission from: www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=133942&command=displayContent&sourceNode=229136&home=yes&more_nodeId1=133951&contentPK=20502778---------------------------------------------------------- This is the court order much discussed and misunderstood from a while ago which is to prevent "multiple vehicles congregating in such a way as to cause damage to property or a risk to the public" or words to that effect. I'm impressed that the lad managed to make smoke from all 4 wheels on a Corsa....

"Car cruising is an evil.."
WTF?
The burn-out aside, what did the kid do which presented a danger? Or was the burn-out really the whole nugget here? And, so they used this banishment to punish the disturbance caused by the burnout?
Do I understand, further, that you can't be charged until you are first personally and individually served with an injunction? IOW, I could cruise Notts until and unless I am served with an injunction through my car window?

I was working in Mansfield last summer and was diggin in a bar next to the train station and those kids were bleezin about that circuit every night, was ok to watch for a while from my lovely vantage point but got a bit much as they were at it til the early hours. I was surprised at the lack of police presence for this sort of affair with it being in the town centre, I only saw one lad get pulled over the whole time I was there. Guy who owned the bar said they all used to congregate in the car park his bar overlooks and he had no end of grief with 3,000,000 watt stereos and engine revving constantly until one American businessman he had staying with him wrote to the council about them, almost immediately they stopped use of it after 6.00pm and peace was restored.

Bring back hanging for all barry bastards, one of them got busted by the DFR's right outside my garage last night for haveing too much black polythene glued on the windows of his gheyed-up midnight warrior Vuaxhall Corsa, thus preventing him seeing out properly.

So, young lad out playing in his barry'd up Corsa spins da wheelZ at a set of lights & drives round all evening, to end up in court & suspended sentence? I'm not the biggest fan of the chav gits, but that does seem a bit harsh! Putting my Starlet back on the road this weekend, so might have a drive round mansfield myself, see what happens!

I suppose the benefit of the doubt has to be given to the police / justice system as to whether the guy deserved it or not. Written in black and white like that, it does look as if the guy was dragged over the coals for just lighting up the tyres (all four! LOL) and driving around with his mates, but I suspect it's not so simple. I've seen the Kro0zaHZ in Notts, and along with having criminal taste in cars and modding, some of them do drive like total c0cks, and deserve all they get.

There's a whole lot of history between 'cruisers' and Police in Notts though.

It seems so, there's been a dispersion (sp?) order on around some areas for some time, I think there's just too many idiots to let it slide. If there were fewer grouping together, it may not have had the same reaction.

I find it harsh tbh. Yeah he probably was being a bloody pain but wouldn't have made more sense to confiscate his 4x4 Corsa rather than banging him up and ruining his prospects for the rest of his life over what is essentially just a wheel-spin?

I reckon that Hirst and the rest of the OAP+ Crew need to roll deep geriatric-stylz in Mansfield.
Charged with reckless wearing of comfortable slacks and playing Heart FM at low volumes.

Yes, driving like a c*ck in a town centre is already covered by existing legislation. I'm a bit concerned about these injunctions - who is getting served them, and how is that decided? Could you be driving through mansfield and find yourself in a line of 'cruisers' and have your plate noted down?
I agree that driving in an unsafe manner in an area where there will also be people, like a town centre, or hanging around making noise at night isn't big, or clever - but this legislation is presuming guilt, and can be applied to anyone. I'm in complete disbelief at some of the laws which we now have in this country.

I really don't like or understand the whole cruising and chavved out shitbox scene, but I can't be doing with the police and media talking wibblepoo like that.

I wonder if we were breaking the law a couple of months ago at the Nottingham Hooters Retro-Rides meet?

While it might have the technically been possibly to break up the R-R meet using this law (I honestly don't know) I'm also on the side of the police/courts on this one. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy in his Corsa was well known to the local police (he did already have an order in force or whatever) and they might well have used him as an example to others and dished out a tough sentence. (He's not banged up though - it was suspended until the end of his enforcement order.) I hope they take his licence away too so that if he's caught again there's even more they can throw at him. (Its a 4x4 Corsa. Honest!! _
