Very tidy repairs there. Is the outside lower wing repaired too?
For some reason I love the look of this car (would probably walk past a standard one without noticing)

Very tidy repairs there. Is the outside lower wing repaired too? Not yet. Will have to make it like the other side which is somewhere earlier in the thread. One or two other little bits to look at too. Thanks  |

Anywhere holed or weak if proded on or within 12" (I think) of a load bearing member/suspension mount/seatbelt mount is a fail. So that's pretty much everywhere on a floorpan of a monocoque car. Sills (Rocker panels to you?) are a favourite spot for failing MOT's. The thing with the Minx is that I could have left the hole in the floor and it wouldn't have failed as its covered by the floor mat on top (they don't lift carpets etc) and is over a crossmember so invisible from below. But there's not much point mesing about like that. I think this car had several "lenient" tests before we got it due to the limited miles it covered. There's no way these bodged areas should have passed. What can usually pass is crusty areas of outer wings, wheel arches, headlight areas etc as long as nothing is loose or sharp. Matt, no colour change planned and there's some other areas to sort before I can play with the paint cans again  ;D |

That's just one more reason I'm soooooo glad I became a US citizen ;D I think you guys amaze me all the hoops you jump through to have , keep and mod older cars !!!!!! My hats off to you !!!! Keep up the good work chaps !!!!! Oh -n- Seth you have good taste in cars to mod ;D

Great work Seth - glad the electrics wasn't a major hassle. A much nicer solution and easier for the future too. Looking great - tasteful mods really complimenting what you already had.  Is there a readers ride thred on the Herald, do you still have the Oxford....? I've lost track TBH John |

Sky, I wouldn't really call the MOT massive hoops and its not just old cars that are affected. Certain modern cars fall foul of rust traps too! And its not really a big deal having someone else check your car over to make sure its safe once in a while. John, Herald thread is here, Oxford one here. Hopefully proper work can start on the Oxford again soon  |

Today I attacked the tail end of the RH sill. Obviously ended up cutting back further than I hoped  A previous repair had gone rusty from the inside as dampness had got behind the sealent/gunk and into the end of the sill. Cut it back to good metal and used three bits to fill the hole, inner sill section, outer sill and sill closing plate/inner arch.    Needs more finishing but its solid and plenty of Dinitrol sprayed inside. I've actually found it comforting to do these bits and pieces and find lots of solid metal very close to the fairly localised bad areas. Goes to show the car hasn't been bodged with plate over plate but has had the rot cut out and repaired to a good standard before its spread and got too bad. Rear of that arch/quarter next! |

Wish my humber would have been repaired properly over the years. Its much nicer working with rusty bits, than rusty bits covered with rusty patches covered with an inch of underseal.
