Well today me and Mike (thanks a bunch mate, really appreciate it!) pulled the engine, gearbox and rear suspension out of the estelle.
I was sure glad to have an extra pair of hands!
It was easy enough to get it out, but disconnecting some of the linkages and pipes was really fiddly.
next step is to pull a few more bits off and just make sure we are rust free and slap some more underseal and waxoil here and there as needed.
Got some pic to add in a few moments.

Right Here are some pics, I have more of getting the box out, but the batteries in the camera have died. Engine cradle mounts undone PULLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111 Help or hinderance??!? Getting it though the side gate was tricky! But we JUST managed to fit it though engine all gone we then set about getting the gearbox and rear suspension out. will sort some pics later maybe! So.... next on the list is get the front subframe off, and get the car as high up in the air as I can so that I can work underneath more easily. The recondition the front suspension and change the 2 pot brakes for 4 pot, then put that back in, finish the new rear end off and bolt that in with the new gearbox, then sort me a motor! Simple! Nah mate. No money as usual List of things to source are...... Motor Fuel filler neck (needs a new one with the new suspension) Rubber tube to connect new filler to tank Tyres for new rims I have been having evil thoughts of keeping the old 120 motor and suspension as well as the spare front end and turning it into a sand rail/buggy/bugrat at some time in the future.. should be a hoot, and it doesn't matter that the engine is a bit smokey! no problemo mate. it was all quite enjoyable apart from getting the clutch fluid in my blister. Let me know when you're ready for the new stuff to be added.
I can't believe we attacked the clutch line problem from such a different approach than the correct one!
Dean would have been more useful if he was handing out drinks. he's not bad at passing sockets though.

Iain Yeah i made some lowering blocks for mike, but i don't have a welder or the box section anymore! As for the clutch slave, I knew it can off the box, but i wanted to leave it attached to the box for the time being! I have taken it off now and that will get a checked and then attached to the new box. Lewis

Right
I stripped the interior again today and shipped that off to my parents garage. I am hoping my mum will help me recover the rear seats. I am thinking of replacing the front seats with some nice but standard bucketish seats off something else!

Right well just in the process of putting the new rear suspension in and I have hit a HUGE Snag. Look...... It would appear that the rear trailing arms on this suspension are wider set than the ones I took off... therefore, the springs sit at a funky angle. curse word!!!!!!!!! What to do?!? I also scored some stick on arches that fit the estelle. Need someting to cover the protuding rims Still a bit of poke, but with a gentle stretch it should work well. Not sure I like them to be honest though. I like the cleaner look so I might roll the arches to help a bit. More of an update later Lewis

i think the arms need the tracking set ,,,it looks like you have loads of toe in which would explain the springs sitting at an angle when you adjust the tracking for toe in,,the arm moves out and forward,,,setting it for toe out moves it in and back ,,you'll need a toe out setting of betwwen 0-30minutes angle between the rear wheels to compensate for the accelaration loads and both have to be set equally to the center line of the car other wise it'll crabb badly
however it may sound daft but i'd recomend going back to swing arm if you enjoy B-roads as ive had loads of carry on on with mine having different camber angles after each drive out in it,,i think its due to the wheels having loads of mechanical advantage over the semi trailing arm,,swingarm is mega strong compared to semi as the side load is spread across both crossmembers and its only body shell weight that bears on the mounts,,,unlike semi-t where it loads up the gearbox crossmember by itself with the full weight of the body and transmission

Jikovron - thanks for the suggestion. I HOPE that it is that simple. I noted the angle of the wheel too!
I will get some straight edges on the hubs tomorrow and measure the toe.
I read the thread on skoda-forum with interest. I was lead to belive that the semi-trailing was better. But I could go back.
The old axles have fooked bearings though. Are the bearings interchangable between the two suspension types?

This.... I like. A lot Body colour will make them blend in a lot better I reckon so won't look so obvious. Bummer about the springs, hopefully it is just the camber. Good to see some work on it

I could measure up the swingarm bearing if you want a comparison between them (i'm running swingarm bearings in mine so i'd guess they're reverse compatible)
however despite that I reckon you'll enjoy it to the max when its back on the road,,i'm still hugely enjoying mine even a month down the line even with standard 136 power and the wonky rear suspension,,although mine will end up swing arm again more than likely ;D
EDIT: just been out and found swingarm bearing is 72mm outside dia 30mm and 27mm wide

OK nice one mate.
I will set to the tracking and see.
Having looked at the semi-t suspension, I can see the issue with the lateral restraint with the trailing arm. I will be running those 8j rims on it, so I am a little worried about waggling the rear end around and pulling drive shafts out!
Ho hum!
All fun and games... i guess

Right -then just a little update to keep up to speed.... So i was having a real problem installing the new suspension system. The tracking looked a mile out, which may have been causing the problem, so I separated the swing arms from the trailing arms and started to mess with the tracking. That, however, didn't fix the issue so I took it all apart for an inspection. Someone on another forum suggested that perhaps the dougnut bushes at the end where the wrong way round. On the old suspension the arms are justified to one side, and with the new suspension, they are justified to the other. I looked at the new stuff then the haynes manual and saw that the plank who had the suspension before me must have taken the suspension apart and put it back together the wrong way round! DOH! So without any further hassle I took everyhting apart and put it back together the correct way and it is now back sat on its wheel! WOOO!!! Just need to finish cleaning up the gearbox and that can go back into the car. I did have a load of pictures, but photobucket seams to have lost them. O well, some more updtates later. Lewis
