Thanks all
Next step is to pull the front end off, service the kingpins (bit clattery), change a steering rack gator, clean, paint and put it back in.
Once the gearbox is clean I need to set to sorting a motor.
I have the 120 motor in my shed at the moment. I will pop the head off and try and figure out why it was smoking so badly.
If it is a dead loss I will put the 135 engine I have back together (stripped so I could learn more about the inner most workings of an engine) and put that in instead.
I am planning to try and get the front end out tomorrow if the weather permits, so if you have some spare time I could always do with the extra pair of hands and motivation!

Mark/Megsy
I might take you both up on that offer. I want to get the front subframe off soon so that it be re-ferbed as well. I have been meaning to do it for while. its not a hard job, bit heavy, but having a couple of people to give me a hand and some motivation would be great.
Also mark could you bring your welder over as there is a tiny (50pence size) hole in a sill that needs patching asap?

A couple of pictures as well to keep this up to date. I got a spare set of doors free (pritty much) which had a set of aluminimum door cards. They are in a pritty sorry state but my dad runs an aliuminium anodising company so I want him to get them brushed and black anodised which should look really good. And here are a few pictures of my filling in the bodged up bird bath spoiler. More updates sooon!

Schweet! With this many hands, it should only take 5 minutes Well I will confirm which day with the Mrs, most likely sunday, and get the kids dispatched. Work plan will be: Get the front up in the air and remove the front subframe. Weld up small patch on nearside rear sill Strip some parts of the front end off like the old brakes etc. I have a trolly jack and two axle stands. If we could sort out one more trolley jack and Mike, can I borrow your stands for a week or so? I will get the air tools out, and sort out some lunch or something perhaps we can fire up the BBQ or something. If the weather is really pants then we can pospone. I would also like to get some of the dash out, but its a bit fiddly so we will see how we get on. Someone could finish wire brushing the gearbox too and we could sling that in if all goes really well. Megsy/Colon - either of you ever fault finded a smokey engine? I am fairly easy as to how much we do, as long as we get the sill sorted and the front end off I will be a happy bunny. And always happy to return the favour as and when needed. Lewis

white (ish) with a tint of blue.
It is now out of the car. so no running it to see, but it is white ish (maybe a hit of blue) and it smoked all the time.
We could drag the head off and check for things like worn valve stem seals etc. Anyone got a compression tester? we could check the rings as well.
