Nice work their. Its helped me as I have stripped down my 1600e legs and measuered the 105e legs and some milton ones. And I was on the right track. I measured some milton steering arms but wasent as much as an 1" shorter. But I havent measured the 105e ones yet. Its nice to see buying of the shelf is not the only way. Please keep the good work and pictures comeing. Many thanks Paul.

Yeah,1" is a little too short but it wasn't a bad guess. The arms I measured were for a milton world cup crossmember/rack conversion.(early conversion) Not the same as ours me thinks. Did an 1" shorter make it faster lock to lock, Make the wheels squeel on turn. I am about to cut mine now but not quite sure how much to shorten. I offered the 1600e ones up againt the 105e ones and they look about the same length by eye. The milton ones were about 10mm shorter. I might go down the middle and cut 3/4" out . Any suggestion welcome. Just a quick question did you reuse the 1600e strut insert locking caps or are their new one with the inserts, as one of mine the thread is not good. Thanks Paul.

Yes,the shorter steering arms did make the steering quicker and also heavier but only at parking speeds.I've not noticed any squealing from the front tyres but that's probably down to only having a 1300 crossflow in it at present. I've never had the chance to compare the Cortina arms against the Anglia ones but I've always been told the Cortina ones are longer. If I make another pair I'll only make them 12.5mm (1/2") shorter but I would also make the steering box and idler arms 12.5mm longer to keep the higher ratio steering plus it would also allow me to move my engine and box forward enough to clear the bulkhead. Looking back at earlier pics of the inserts they did come with new locking caps.

I got mine from Aldon Automotive but if you contact Spax or any of the other manufacturers I'm sure they will tell you where your nearset stockists are. www.spaxperformance.comYou could also try your nearest rolling road or tuning company.

Well,it's been well over a year and the Anglia remains untouched but while it was quiet at work last week I made another pair of struts but this time fitted the tried and trusted 2.8 Capri vented discs and M16 calipers on a shiny new pair of alloy hubs. I might even fit them on sometime soon but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Struts look good nice work. Did you weld the top of the threaded tube as well as the bottom?

Great project and a lot of info so thankyou!
One question, what top mounts are you going to run with the modified struts? What is the diameter of the capri insert tops?
Thanks
Hope you get to finish it soon!

Thanks Hope you get to finish it soon! I'm using eccentric Escort top mounts but only because I had some in the garage. They needed modding to get them to fit under the inner wing and re-drilling for the struts. I've no idea what diameter the strut tops are but they're the same as Escort if that's any help. I've not touched it since doing the struts so don't expect it to be back on the road any time soon.

The inside of my struts now measure 371mm deep. My inserts are Ford Capri, not sure what the ones you've linked to are as they're a little longer. I had to reduce the diameter of the top mounts to fit the inner wings so had to re-drill the mounting holes anyway plus they'll still match up to the strut brace. I've no experience of Noltec mounts but if you can use an insert that fits them and get them to fit the inner wongs then why not. Good luck, you'll have to start a thread of your own and keep us all updated.

When I have something to show for my troubles I will post something Sexy TB's got to love the US dollar
