Coming along right nicely... Haha, I love the fact this isn't even going to be legal when done. Trouble is, what happens after this? I mean van, trailer, engine swap... Gulf pit bike? Makes you realise how much we can get away with in this country, and still remain legal... ;D Well once i´ve done the engine its going to need a homemade front and rear axle so that´ll keep me out of mischief for a while. When that´s done i fancy building a MKIV Capri..... ;D

Thanks mate, next time you´re anyway near stop by for a cup of decent english tea. That's a definite! - PM your details and I'll make sure I make space for a visit.... ;D Not up to speed on that - you can fill in the gaps in my pothole knowledge when I get over there. Fancy joining a European RR08 convoy in August? Definitely up for that - will obviously sort it out closer to the time - you already planned your route? On top of that - once again - great work and looking forward to the next update........ We live near Osnabrück so if you´re going to be local give us a shout. We´ll be going over to RR08 on the Thursday before. We´ll meet up near Essen and drive via Venlo, Antwerp, Brugge and stay over at a caravan site on the Belgium coast. Ferry over to the UK on Friday morning then up to Mallory. The return journey will be on Monday /Tuesday depending on cheap ferries. I´ll give you the adress of the camping site and we could meet up there for a BBQ before we sail over...

would it be rude to ask if we dutchies can hook up to your convoi? Don´t see why not mate. I´ll post some details a bit closer to the date. We could all meet up at the caravan site and have a couple of beers and a BBQ before we sail over..... We´d just have to all book the same ferry, but we can sort that out in summer.

Cheers Matt, nearly forgot about that yesterday as I was drawing the mount up. On paper it all looked good, then I was sat underneath the van having a brew when I realised that if i´d have welded it up as planned I wouldn´t be able to get the engine back out again.... If my misses hadn´t have brought me a brew out to the garage i´d have probably welded it in!!! Its an easy mistake to make. Seen a few people do it even seasoned hot rod builders. You get so excited about having the engine in the car without been on a jack that you do the quickest thing possible to finish. Matt

If push comes to shove you probably could take the engine out through the cab. If you took the gearbox off first it would definately go but don´t fancy that.

Got the right hand engine mount finished up and painted. Not pretty but should handle 200+BHP.. Now i can get stuck into the left hand one. The other one took me best part of 3 days to get right but this side will take longer as i won´t be able to use the original aluminium mount that sits deriectly on the engine....so here´s the start... Same 10mm girders i used on the other side. It´s all zink plated which is a pain as you have to grind it all off so that the welds will hold. Hopefully it won´t take me three attempts to get this one right ;D

With the right hand side sorted... I got stuck into the left hand engine bracket yesterday and this evening... Its surpirising how long it takes. At the end of the evening you look at what you´ve been up to the last few hours and think...is that all? Anyway got the bracket finished and welded up.. again not pretty but should do the job (even at Santa Pod! ) Should be able to get the other adapter plate made up at the weekend and get the van back on it´s own feet to see how its all sits with the weight of the new engine in.... thanks for looking in... Dave

Looks good. I'd be tempted to add a gusset like this to take the strain off the welds. Matt

Thanks Matt, was tempted myself.
If you look at the front leaf springs, they´ll probably be coming up too far to allow that.
I´ve got two made up and if when the van is sitting on its own wheels i still have some room left i´ll weld them in...
Will hopefully get the van back on the floor at the weekend.
Cheers,
Dave

Bloody heck Dave, you are moving ahead at a pace.
I am sure every one on here can relate to "Is that all I have done tonight ? "
Amazing how time flies when you get stuck in.

Cheers Tim. Got the rest done today.... mocked up... had to take the other half back out and had to shorten it by 3mm to get this half to fit properly... Gussetted it, finished welded it all up and have painted it. As i´ve got room, i can now go back and gusset the other side too, as Matt (stealthstylzz) suggested. Cheers Matt More tomorrow...... ;D Cheers, Dave
