even when the front has settled once been loaded there should be 20mm clearance between the axle and the sump... Do you mean in front of or underneath? Difficult to see in the photos. That's not a lot of suspension movement if the axles only 20mm under the sump Steering tie rod under there too? Will that clear OK throughout steering travel? I'm sure your thinking of these things but just letting you have my thoughts on seeing the photos.

Thanks Seth, i meant after the suspension has hit the bumps stops i should have 20mm room to play.
To be honest though these things have a lousy suspension, like an old cart and don´t have much spring travel. Especially when you´ve taken half of them out to slam it!! ;D
The steering works fine from one opposite lock to the other.

Just looked at your front suspenders... I see you only have 5 blades left, I have 6 !!! Guess the first job next time with the suspension is to boot away another blade ;D Second thing I see it that there is a secondary set of bushes for the front set of springs on their hangers. So get me 20 pieces please for the refit. Thanks. Beyond that, it seems things are going well for you . I am off to the garage now to fix the top of the trailer lid I am busy making, then hinges, fit and make the support legs to go underneath when it is flipped open and used as a table. Spent all day faffing around trying to bulid some decent gearbox mounts. After nearly fours hours of measuring, welding, measuring, grinding, measuring etc etc i binned the first three attempts and spent the next hour making a chimney/exhaust for the garage heater. With the head clear i made up version no. 4 which not only fits but together with the other one i made yesterday should hold the gearbox where it should... As Ford used 3mm steel i went safe and used some 4mm angle iron i´d rescued from the skip at work... it all bolts up to the original gearbox mount that was screwed to the floor of the Scorpio, but as the van doesn´t have a tunnel it obviously sits lower and needs these adapters.... Not pretty but should be strong enough... ;D Now i´m warmed up a bit will see if i can get one of the engine mounts done tomorrow.

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

I am sure Dave would approve of your Username and ride in combination ;D Here are pics I took today when picking up some wood for the shed where the extra parts of the bus will go. Look forward to a complete ride report.

Spent all day turning this girder... with a right hand modified engine mount ... into a half decent engine mount adapter.... think 8mm steel should do the job 3mm side clearence to the front springs.....! Still not quite finished yet but you get the gist.

Sorry to be negative, but arent the leafs going to flex sideways into the mount under cornering loads?
Hope I'm 100% wrong, as this van is 100% of ace :-)

Once that mounts all gusseted up it should be perfect. Remember to make it removeable or else you won't be able to remove the engine haha.

Hope I'm 100% wrong, as this van is 100% of ace :-) Not being negative mate, i´m thankfull for any ideas or pointers... I´m not an expert (never done anything like this before) and this is definately not a "how to " thread... To be honest i´m not sure how much the leafs will flex on cornering. I´ll be welding on an extra bit on the top of the bracket to give me a bit more clearance, it also needs some strengthening along the back but i ran out of wire yesterday.

Matt Cheers Matt, nearly forgot about that yesterday as i was drawing the mount up. On paper it all looked good, then i was sat underneath the van having a brew when i realised that if i´d have welded it up as planned i wouldn´t be able to get the engine back out again.... If my misses hadn´t have brought me a brew out to the garage i´d have probably welded it in!!!

If the TÜV guys would ever saw this they´d put me away and throw the keys away.......The van is not normally registered but is on a 06 red german numberplate...which means i don´t have to got to the TÜV every two years..... ;D Fancy joining a European RR08 convoy in August?

Thanks mate, next time you´re anyway near stop by for a cup of decent english tea. That's a definite! - PM your details and I'll make sure I make space for a visit.... ;D If the TÜV guys would ever saw this they´d put me away and throw the keys away.......The van is not normally registered but is on a 06 red german numberplate...which means I don´t have to got to the TÜV every two years..... ;D Not up to speed on that - you can fill in the gaps in my pothole knowledge when I get over there. Fancy joining a European RR08 convoy in August? Definitely up for that - will obviously sort it out closer to the time - you already planned your route? On top of that - once again - great work and looking forward to the next update........

Coming along right nicely... Haha, I love the fact this isn't even going to be legal when done. Trouble is, what happens after this? I mean van, trailer, engine swap... Gulf pit bike?
Makes you realise how much we can get away with in this country, and still remain legal... ;D

That is why I am looking for a small moped, preferably 60's or 70's vintage to do in Sinclair Oil colours for shopping etc. OK, need to go hit the garage and carry on with trailer, we had a power failure here last night.
