Howdy, Loving the cars on here, so thought I'd join and post up mine. I've been working on this for the last 6 months or so, picked it up in March with the idea of a little tart up and then drive it in the summer. That all went downhill pretty quickly though... Before I bought it I was completely clueless about anything mechanical-wise, safe to say this thing has taught me a thing or too. basic spec: 1977 Polo, 895cc, 101k, FSH, lots of rust! It was registered on the 12th January 1977, gutted as it's NEARLY a 76! Ah well (apologies for quality/size of some pics) I'll be running a full mk3 Polo 1.3 GT conversion, including the rear beam (with arb) full front suspension setup, steering rack etc. Slammed on some nice 13s, semi-smooth bay and detailed engine. I'll update with more info when I get some time. Cheers for looking, comments welcomed!

berendd - yeah I will be buying the g-laderseite bush kit, i've read a fair bit about them and definately seems the way to go. Do you have a Derby? (or so I think I've read) Have you seen the subframe/wishbone conversion that Polo Performance Parts have just released? Now that would SERIOUSLY sort out the handling! Its actually very rusty, I've replaced a large floor section (and countless other little bits on the floor) spare wheel well, few plates where the sills meet the rear chassis legs, both rear arch insides, new battery tray, major front valance repair (cant find a new panel) complete new rear valance, both wings, rear corner where the arch meets the rear panel. Loads more little pinholes and bigger kept appearing everywhere! I'm ontop of it now though with just a little welding on the rear left to complete. Must say your friends bronze 50 is such ann inspiration and probably the nicest one i've ever seen!
oldbus64- Unsure about chrome bumpers, possibly just going for painted metal or lightly polished. As it's an early base spec model there are no holes on the car for any kind of chrome trim (middle, sills etc) so I'm relucatant to use any chrome as I'd rather go all or nothing with it.
Cheers for the comments!

Looking good Tomw - though it looks cold in your workshop? Your plans sound spot-on, I really fancy getting a Mk1 Polo, that perhaps a bit rougher than My Derby, and making into a little B-road blaster. Never really feel inclined to give the Derby too much 'stick' as its a bit too precious to me - but I can sense that one with all the right bits could be a hoot to drive. Look forward to following your progress on this project

Thanks for the comments
DerbyDan- Cold is the least of my worries, its when its wet and the rain comes through the holes in the old roof! Still, very thankful I have some room to work on it. Mine has an original Audi spare key as yours does (seen it mentioned in the 50 thread) I'm struggling on where to draw the line between building it for beauty and building it to be driven... somewhere deep in the middle I think! Any pics/thread of your derb?
Lovejoy- I've said it enough times that yours is a serious inspiration! loved the article in Golf+ Without seeing yours I'd be totally happy with repainting mine a different colour but everytime I see it I want to paint mine Mars Red again!

Yeah - i'd actually love access to a decent amount of dry-ish space to work on my car, my car is stored under a car-port, which is better than nothing, but it is a bit to small to properly work on it So you are right to be thankfull for your workshop space Here's the link to my RR thread on my car... [ftp]http://retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=1108489254&page=1[/ftp] Its rather old now & needs abit of updating - but you may have seen more recent pictures of it on the Club Polo forum? The only difference TBH is the stereo install & more recently added period alloy wheels. Oh & i've got some pics of it on a mate's gallery site.... [ftp]http://gallery2.t49.net/v/cars/forumcars/derbydan/[/ftp] Talking of Club Polo - is anyone going to the Polo Show next month?

Cheers mate, appreciate it. Mars Red rules, i was really tempted to paint mine grey but decided to keep it original in the end, what colour do you have in mind for yours? If you don't mind me asking? Oh yeah, cheers for the pm on clubpolo! Derbydan - Ive sent you an email mate, cheers

Crikey is it Polo Show time already?! I shall more than likely be going, but I am not sure if I can make E38 this year. Get back from a holiday in Wales on Saturday... I'd like to try though. So is there going to be a Derby/Mk 1 lineup at the Polo Show then? LOL!?
Nice work there TomW. Very much look forward to seeing it when its all done! Interesting to hear your plans too. I fancy a bit more oomph for my Derby but I have no funds at the mo... it needs a few more pressing things doing though, like the fuel gauge and the driver's side window...
Always a pleasure to see Lovejoy's Derby too. Awesome car. And also an inspiration! Good too see you briefly at Inters mate. It was a bit annoying actually, that Golf+ wrote such a bad review (even though it was'nt the best!) after we bent over backwards to help them. Nevermind.
Not been onto Polo forum for ages, must check it out...
